I have 4 tee time for that Thursday, March 27.
Players are
Crimson Lake
Tim in Tidalwash
Music Mike
Cliff
Tuppy
Bobbo
Beggin Jim
S-28
Elgin acres
Connie Boyle
me

That's only 11 so we have room for 5 more. These are not the foursomes, I just listed everyone, pairings can be done later or by request. Cliff and Connie had asked to join me.
Anyone need clubs? The course is Amelia River and it's part of the Amelia Plantation. I'll post the rate when I get it, safe to say it won't be their published one.

Who Else??

Cliff, you just hung a 'kick me' sign on your own back.

I'll play, though I'll provide much more in the way of entertainment than competition.

I'll need clubs. I'd be happy to play with anyone who has a high tolerance for careening shots, lost balls, more than one beer, and general hijinx. Anyone who does not meet the above probably will not be happy having me in their foursome.

I'll need clubs, too, but I'd be happy to share a set. Maybe with Bob. I doubt we'd both be using the wrong club at the same time.

My golf game is much like my guitar play, a neglected hobby at best and something I don't take too seriously...life's too short :)

If I break 120 on 18 holes, it's a good day...If I can remember two of three versus and the chord change of Buffet song, it's an even better day!

Bobbo, you sound like perfect company in the cart.

I have a couple extra sets of clubs, I can bring them if the clubhouse is limited.

Beal: I will bring my own sticks - not that it is very important...just that I'd rather only break my own...Pair me with whoever - I'm sure all will be equally disappointed in my lack of precision...are we talking about golf or guitar playing? Doesn't matter - the same applies to either. Al - do you ever venture onto a golf course?

Bill, I will need a set of clubs.

Bobbo...count me in your 4some unless Cliff wants me to rag on his ass for 18 holes. I just want to have a few too many drinks and a lot of fun.

Cliff, different course.

Greens fees will be the special Beal rate of $60
Club rental is $30 and they are Nike clubs. I'll get a count as we get closer of how many we need.

I don't think they allow tag alongs but will check.

Dave, this is North Florida, you don't have to worry about any of those things. Sometimes this is refered to as South Georgia.

O.k., I haven't played golf in 20 years, but cracked 90 a few times when I did. Mark and I will be coming in on the all-night redeye so even if I could play, I wouldn't be up to it. Does that mean I'm a perfect candidate for best ball? Beal, if you need one more to round out a foursome, count me in, but for heavens sake, please stick me with the 40 handicappers.

Mike, I'll be happy to join you and the Boys if you're not too concerned about scores. I had a set of clubs a long time ago...$25 from the pawn shop including the bag. Everything matched. Sold them at a yard sale for about the same amount 15 years later. Not sure it matters what clubs I use and my old golf shoes are at the bottom of some methane heap at the dump. You fellas play barefooted? I also prefer walking over riding in a cart.

Welcome aboard Brad...I'm not sure of the rules at this club, but most encourage carts for group play now. You really might want to rent a set of clubs...I just looked at the old set and they're not really much to play with...yard sale items mostly and OLD...with a rental set, you'll at least have a fair advantage. Its all about haveing a good time anyway!

Anyone want to share a bag of clubs? Knowing nothing of the finer points (or cruder points, except for a few scottish jokes) I'm not picky about which number is on the stick I dig holes with while trying to hit the little white ball.

Waskel, I'd be happy to share a bag if we're matched in the same group. However, I'm still not sure whether I'm playing or not. I thought I was needed to keep things square and volunteered accordingly, but now I'm not so sure. I don't need to play just for the sake of playing.

Thanks, Prof, but I think I'm with Tim, Bobbo and Stephen.

That's how I felt. Then I realized I'm doing it for a much greater, self-sacrificing purpose - to make Tim, Bobbo and Stephen look better...

John, some courses won't allow you to share clubs but I am renting a set so if they allow sharing, we can do it.

Sounds good, Stephen, if they do I'll split it with you. If not, I'll just rent my own (and make sure I check the 'club damage' insurance option...)

Oh come on, Go For It!

Of course, you have to wear the same for Wednesday night.
Darby was brilliant last night by the way. He's been in the money 2 of the last 4 weeks. The fact that there were only 2 entrants each week has nothing to do with it.
I figure on Wind night there will be at least 20. I'll also help Joe out and get him to go to 4 places that night, maybe even 5.

For those not golfing there are plenty of things to do in town(and after golf for everyone as well)
I'll work up a list and have Dave post it on the AmeliaMatt posting. All those that need clubs, tell me again, I think there are only two that have indicated they need rentals.

Wabbit, go over to Golf Galaxy in Beaverton. I got a pair of decent golf shoes there for $20. They were having a sale and I got lucky. I suspect the Spring isn't the best time to get a deal.
I haven't worn them yet. I'm saving them for when I wear out the ones I have.

I checked the course website and hope Beal gets you a discount. I use a lot of golf course, but I hate to pay much, since my wife is correct when she says all I ever do is complain about how crappy I played. It didn't say anything about a dress code.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm not excessively cheap, and I am looking forward to this.

But golf is not my hobby, and I'm just trying to avoid spending too much on accessories I'm probably never going to use again.

I can pick up a pair of Footjoys on the bay for $35.

I'm excessively cheap, but Beal got a great discount at what looks like a wonderful course. Wabbit, when I went down to Arizona a few years ago, I didn't want to haul my clubs and the Wooden Roundback, so my dad borrowed a neighbor's clubs so I could go out and play 9 holes with him. I don't think there were 2 of the same brand of clubs in the bag and none less than 10 years old. I shot a 37. Best 9 of my life. In spite of the marketing, for us duffers, the equipment doesn't matter much. My new driver just helps me hit it 20 yards further--out of bounds. Just wear tennis shoes if they'll let you and borrow some clubs. I have an extra set of clubs you could borrow, too, if you don't mind real wood woods. They were great clubs back in 1970.

Hehe.

Thanks, Mark, clubs aren't a problem. I inherited my dad's old set, but I'm not hauling them to FL. I don't have a problem renting a set if they don't allow sharing. If they require shoes, that's not a problem either, I'll just pick up a chea... inexpensive pair.
Yes, I looked at the ARGC site, and Beal wangled a BIG discount, and that is very cool! THANKS, BEAL!!

I'm expecting this to be a lot of FUN! Well, for me. The other three in my foursome may use a different word when we get back to the clubhouse... if you don't hear from me Thursday night, please ask the police to check the water hazards for any shreds of clothing the gators didn't eat.

So stuffing tissues into a pair of my old shoes isn't an option for the high rolling Wabbit.

He'd rather wear the shoes of a stranger that make his foursome partner feel useful and needed.

I just called Amelia River. No problem with players sharing a set of clubs, and I can wear sneakers and not be dragged from the course in disgrace.

...at least not for that reason, anyway...

Thanks for the update, Wabbit. I'm pretty handy in the garage so I'm going to track down some of those rubber spikes and install them on some old sandals. Not sure why. Having spikes will eliminate one excuse for why I play so horribly. Even when I did play, I eventually gave up trying to use woods. 200 yards straight with an iron (didn't seem to even matter which iron) was always more preferable than what I could do with one of the woods (out of bounds, in the trees, in the pond, through a window, behind the T, etc.). That's why I'm hoping for "Best Ball" because then I won't even bother with wood shots off the T. In fact, I may not in any event.

About 50 yards was the best I could do with an iron, although once I got a putter to go 75. I got a really good windup before I let go of it.

The OFC demands a video. Tiger wrote, "How I Play Golf." If Wabbit stars in a movie, "How I Play Golf" and Tiger sues for copyright infringement, it'll make the best seller list in no time. It might go right up there with Tim Conway's golf videos.

He was funny. There's a video on the golf swing that I should send to Waskel if I find it. Someone sent it to me because I've been known to overanalyze my swing. It starts out like any other instructional video and then rattles off about 27 steps to think about when you hit the ball.

Anybody have any advice on where to pick up about three dozen golf balls, possibly used, many of which may be struck only once? How 'bout floaters?

I've got a ton of them. For some reason really bad golfers use Titleist ProVs and then lose them at about $3 a pop. I'm a really bad golfer, too, but I keep finding these expensive golf balls in the woods or the water when I'm looking for my cheap ones.
Sunday, I apologized to some people who threw my ball back on the course. They said, "you didn't hit our house. You flew over the house and across the street." I lost that ball later, but found a few more ProVs.
Actually, go down to Target and buy a bag of balls. Leave them all in Florida so you don't have to bring them back.

I used the army golf phrase several times on Sunday and finally on the 13th hole, one of the foursome finally got it. I was just way right and center, no lefts. Usually I have the army thing down. Another guy accused me of sandbagging on my 25 handicap, but I told him to just wait. Sure enough, I finished 25 over. I play much better when I don't count any penalty strokes and take lots of Mulligans.

Mark, either your foursome consisted of very good golfers...or had never hacked around a course like I have, and still do. 25 handicap? I have never played above a 36...come ta think of it, nor has anyone else...sounds like a lucky lottery #...excuse me, but I have to run to tha corner store. ;) :D

Good enough, Cliff. I just didn't want to arrive unprep'd and end up paying premium prices in the golf shop. I'll bring a few good ones for those tee shots I think I can make. There are maybe four of them according to the course layout.

No sense buying them for what may amount to standing by a water hazard and throwing them at the frogs...

Why mess up a perfectly adequate swing with practice.

That's like reading a golf magazine.

For me there is no quicker way to screw up my game!

good point....but after 11 holes (don't ask) in 3 1/2 years..I figured I might need a little practice, 'cause the swing was never adequate to begin with.

maybe I'll wear a coconut bra and no one will pay attention to the swing.

Fair warning to all...even standing behind me might be dangerous.

You and my league partner, T. Love the guy like a brother (in spite of his being a bass player) but you gotta watch him every second. The big joke is after two Jack & cokes, he'll hit every ball he sees whether he's just hit or not, but he STILL shoots better than a 90. Must be all the practice he gets every hole. ;)
