Hi all.
I've just bought my first Ovation, a 2004 USA 1778lx elite.
Firstly.
The action is a little too high for me. I know there are shims under the pick up. I've checked and there is only one of 1mm thick. I dont think that removing this will make a great deal of difference at the 12th fret or so. So those of you that have similar models, if you put a straight edge across the soundboard right behind the bride, is it flat, or is there a slight arch. For example if you use a 12 inch rule, what gap do you have under each end of the rule when placed just behind the bridge .
I'm trying to establish whether the bridge area of the soundboard has lifted slightly, because of humidity or having heavy gauge strings fitted etc. I have seen this before on another Ovation I bought but had to return because of this problem.

Secondly.
I have a Line 6 Pod 2.0 and the Ovation doesn't appear to work with it. A Yamaha and a Takamine work fine with the Pod and the Ovation straight into an amp is fine, but the Ovation and Pod won't work together. The Pod is getting some kind of signal because you can use the tuner function to tune the guitar, but no sound.
I have found a couple of other stories on the net about this bit there wasn't any resolution indicated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear about your problems. Most guitars will have a slight bulge behind the bridge (there's a lot of force pulling on the bridge). Take the manhole cover off and check that the braces are all still firmly attached - if one has come loose, the top of the guitar can do some weird things. Removing the shim will help - if the action is too high, you should take it out. I don't think any of my Ovations have shims in them anymore.

I know nothing about the Line 6 problem.
