| This may be a really dumb question, but it won't be my first, or last for that matter. If the body of the standard Ovation is not considered a Dread, what is it? I've always thought that they were dreads, but have recently been informed otherwise. What would they be closest to in size? |

Location: Upper Left USA | I had my hands on Al's (Wooden top Adamas 1537 predescessor dreadnaught) during the 2006 OFC Tour and although it had older strings than most GC Wall Hangers, it was still lovely.
I do have a semi-evil plan to split a fiberglass bowl and re-glass it. I also plan to do a lot of things... |

The reason I ask is that I'm 'gathering' ol' Ovations for my Grandbabies futures. I would love to adopt several smaller 'O's for their younger years. |

Location: Scotland | The 97 collectors was the first parlour guitar, a 12-fret solt-head, centre-hole which came in 2 neck widths and had a unique preamp. It's a great guitar. There was a short-lived 14-fret Elite-style parlour size and a very rare Celebrity version. None are particularly common. |

I have been doing some reading and amongst the topics were Heimholtz and overtones and what/how we interpret the sounds to call them music. Couple that with what industrial/Technology was available to build instruments and you could have endless discussions on the "right" size of a guitar.
I'll buy the first round of Root Beer... |

As for sound a deep bowl Ovation will project more sound. My Folklore is a louder sounding guitar than my 000 Martin.
Woody, can I have a scoop of Vanilla ice cream with my rootbeer? |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | That's what I've been suggesting for a while here. A wood topped Adamas I(cedar preferred)
Nobody at the factory would respond when I asked about me sending in a 1537 as a base instrument for the project. I don't really blame them. It seems like it would be a nightmare to construct. Particularly when it came to trying to use an Adamas binding on a wood top.
But then again ... they would probably try anything if the price was right. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Notwithstanding depth, the Tak75 and the 1581/1651 deep bowls have approximately the same top footprint shapes. I use one soft-sided Tribal Planet case to carry these guitars without changing the location any of the internal case foam padding. Incidently, by exchanging the internal padding for a custom foam insert, I can use the same case for the EA Vipers, VXT and the Hamer Improv. It would probably fit the Les Paul, maybe the Telecaster, and most of the older Ovation solids as well, although I don't typically gig with these. I like to maximize the "one case fits all" theory of guitar hauling. |

There were a few other Dread sized fiberglass backs made. Al's is probably the only one still alive. |

Location: CT | Isn't Als guitar a dreadnought size? When I see "Super Jumbo" I think Gibson J-200, or a Guild F-50. Jumbo is a different shape than dread. And in either case, a different shape than the O. Why does an Ovation have to fit a mold classified by other guitars? It's Ovation shaped, because there's no other guitar with quite the same proportions. Interior volume maybe, but not identically shaped. |

12"
17"
Any one got a quick reference? |
