BUT FIRST!!! If somewhere down the line you recieved a "Slipkids Trinket" disc, you already have it.
SECOND!.. You need to be able to recieve a 2.5mb e-mail. I split it up into two sections so there will be two e-mails of 2.5mb each.
Pick through em. Play what you like, delete what you don't.
I just need your e-mail address. |

I've got 2 storage boxes of music tunes, instruction books, etc, in my closet. Occassionally in going thru it, I come upon lists of tunes that I know, but I've never taken (read that as "have had") the time to actually put together a notebook.....
Who has? |

I might have to start a new one exclusivly for ones I'm working on. |

Matt Smith suggested this. So I have one book I made for music, and another for all things guitar, such as magazine articles ... and then I recycle the mags. |

It's alphabetized and goes back to stuff written in pen and ink on looseleaf with chords written as a superscript. The newer stuff is computer printed, but I still put the chords in by hand. I never use notes on stage and just use the book as a reference for when I update my active songlist. |

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | I have over 3100 pop/folk/country songs, with maybe 150 dupes due to variations, in Word format that I've gathered over the past two years from various sources.
As I view/play 'em I correct what I know is incorrect/incomplete and add tabs if I need 'em.
Since I don't gig I keep 'em on the 'puter. But I am hoping to start a notebook of those very few that I am not ashamed to play for the Grandbabies. :D
I also have collected over 200 videos of lessons and favorite performances. These really tend to aid my motivation and refreshes my memory.
I'm at a point now that I rarely have to go out and add to my libraries. But when I do, it normally opens up a path I haven't traveled or have forgotten. |

All I have to do is think about somebody else listening and I draw a blank. It took me a couple hours to think of the name of someone who performed one of the songs I had so I could get it in the right place.
On the other side of the coin, I still have the spiral binder I used to write down lyrics from songs I was trying to learn in the early 70s. What's amazing is that without tabs, computers or any fancy recording equipment, I did a pretty good job of figuring out the words and music to a bunch of songs. |

It's suprising how fast they fill up! Before I was like Moody, just stuff in a folder. Funny what makes you do things and the affect it can have on you. |

In other parts of the house, we have maybe 100 notebooks of choreography material and shows we've been involved in, and SWMBO has a personal library of sheet music numbering at least a thousand. That happens when you've been a soloist for 45 years (her, not me). |

a good project may be if we collected a pile of tunes from everyone put them on a cd and passed them around.
I always find it interesting to see what others are working on and to get ideas for myself
any thoughts? |

This way people can download what they want. It also makes updating a lot easier. I'd be happy to look into it if you all think it's a good idea. |

Yeah,I'm a sucker, Jas. But I'm a lucky sucker. Finding the OFC, especially the Southern division has put me on a good road. I'm thoroughly enjoying making music again! I don't yak much so my posts may be infrequent but I check in regularly to learn. And laugh. With all that the OFC has given me, it is my privelege to share. By all means include my books!

The one thing Matt says he "can't stress enough" is the importance of playing the standards in whatever genre you choose. If we want to be better acoustic guitar players, we need to learn "The Weight" and "Blowin' in the Wind" et al. |

Anyways, I sure am happy that some folks are digging the cheat sheets. My distinct and absolute pleasure, really! Makes me all warm and fuzzy knowing that I may have helped get some guitars off the stands and into the hands tonight.

(nice)"I Think We're Alone Now"... I see you are not afraid to go where the music takes you. My duo partner had to be dragged kicking and screaming into "Mrs Brown", now it's one of his favorites. He has drawn hard line at "There's A Kind Of Hush". He'll do it with me as long as it's the original Herman's Hermit version and not that sappy Carpenters cover. :) |

Tea Garden and VanWinkle?!?! NICE!
The fun thing about lists like this is when "Wildwood Weed" is immediately followed by "Will the Circle Be Unbroken". :D
Half the fun is the challenge of "can I pull this off". Brian & I finally made "Won't Get Fooled Again" sound good. I hope I get to hear Otto's version someday."Love Hurts"... that sounds like a difficult one to handle.
"Let's Get Together", Canned Heat... very nice!! We'll follow it up with "Goin' Up the Country".
Before I end this epic post let me do a little thread housekeeping. It started out as an offer from me to send out my "Slipkid's Trinket" disc to those who do not already have one. It has all my song sheets on it tho it's not nearly as neat, organized and tidy as Otto's.The collection that Crimson and Lovehandles Jim are working on may or may not have my songs sheets.
Ya know... I've been making hard copys of the CD and sending them all over the world. Maybe I should post it where Jim posted Ottos. The Trinket is about 400mb. Anyone know where I can post it so folks can just download it? |

I've been doing a little looking into someplace to post the stuff, but haven't found anyplace suitable (or free) yet. On Comcast, where my account is, you can only upload six files at a time and so far I haven't been able to figure out how to make them downloadable to the public. |

Location: Marlton, NJ | To me, the goal would be to have everything in one format, either individually downloadable, or downloadable as a bulk file as the Capt. has done with Otto's songbook.
The individual files aren't that big, but there's ALOT of them.
Maybe the CD idea was a little ambitious - but with a little time could be done. My idea for that was to have it all in PDF format on a CD, with all of the songs linked to the TOC and indexed. The PDF part is pretty easy, linking the songs takes time, but is not horrible and burning the CDs obviously takes some time.
I am still committed to the CD, but just need to find the time to do it. |
