Many of you know I traded for a 1979 Glen Campbell Artist some time ago. I tend to check the values of all my guitars from time to time for insurance. But this one is all over the place due to the different 1627 models (LTD, VL, SL, 40th). Can I get a realist value? It is in VG to EX (8.5-9/10) condition (only slight pick marks on the top), with the OHSC.

Thanks in advance.

If he'll sell me a 1979 GC in that kind of condition for $475, I'm buying!

I paid something like $600 (can't remember for sure, it may have been $700) for a 1976 Patriot a year ago, which is pretty much the same guitar from the same era. I would rate mine as good to vg condition. Basic Balladeers from that era go for $350 to $450. The GC model is less common, and I think more desirable than the other similar models of the same year. I could see your guitar selling for $600 to $1000 given the condition. Or, to put it the other way around, if you had to replace it you would want your insurance to cover up to $1000 for it.

This is all speculation of course. If I were you I would go by the higher values you find for 1627. I would scan ebay, elderly, guitar center, and other online used guitar retailers.

Prices will be all over the place, especially from more than a year ago. Recently it seems prices are up a bit, or at least some sellers are more optimistic. I feel pretty comfortable with thinking your guitar is currently worth about $750, but it could be a lot more or a lot less depending on the mood of buyers that week. The condition of your guitar does count for a lot.

If you are looking for a good number for your insurance I would document everything about your guitar with photos and put a decent value on it. If you're not over the basic limit for your coverage it doesn't matter if you guess a bit high, you're covered up to the limit for the same premium. An older O with some desirability which is in excellent condition is getting to be a rarity, so it will be difficult to replace.
