I've been an Ovation lover going way back. My first Ovation is a truly vintage one that I still own. It's a 1979 US made 1651 Legend LTD Acoustic/Electric (not much for the pre-amp pickup - just one knob with volume on top and tone on bottom). It's got a AAA Solid Sitka Spruce top and gold plated tuning keys, but it's a really old guitar and while it has held up pretty well... I really want something shiny and new (being silly, sort of..).

Stopped into one of my favorite pawn shops today where I can pick up NEW Martin Marqui strings REAL CHEAP and of course I have to browse thru the used guitars available. My eye catches the distinctive pattern on the top of the next (tuning key area... what do you call it?) so I pull it down to look closer and I start to play it... SWEET! The action was amazing, the tone really great for a shallow bowl, and I thought it sound pretty darned good and the marked price was $400.

Now I didn't have my decoder ring with me, so I could compare the serial number to the chart to find out the year of it, but it looked to be in nearly "like new" shape with no blemishes or noticeable scratches of any kind. I kind of have been dreaming of a Balladeer, but this one will cost me at least $300 less and I can still get a Balladeer some day, but I could get this one today!

Am I jumping too fast because it sounded so sweet? Thoughts? Recommendations?

Sorry... that this is my introduction and here I am already asking for help. I'll tell you more about my Ovation love and Guitar love in later posts, but would appreciate ANY feedback on this before I go make a rash decision.

Am I just being a...

Did you really expect that anyone here is going to say "Don't do it"?

Go for it. And welcome.
