Hi Everyone,

New member here, and yes I did sign up to ask a question. My boyfriend bought me the greatest birthday present, a "new to me" Adamas 1597. He bought it at the Guitar Center in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
My question is about the sound holes. There are actually no holes in the top whatsoever; they have not been cut out of the epaulets. The sales guy said that this is intentional, and that the holes are only on the lesser models. Huh? So I'm looking at pics online of my same model and all of them have holes; I can see the ovation label through the holes in the pics -- but to see my label I had to remove the back manhole cover and shine a flashlight in there. The guy also said the top is wood ("piano wood" is what he said), which doesn't appear to be the case either. If anyone has any insight on the sound hole thing, I would appreciate it.

In any case, there is no other guitar for me but Ovation. I bought my first one in 1998, a Balladeer model 1111-4. I got it cheap from my next door neighbor because it had a broken headstock. I guess he repaired it well, because I've been playing it all these years with no problem. My Balladeer sounds wonderful, but as soon as I played this Adamas.... wow.... what a difference!!! And the addition of electronics is a huge step up for me.

Glad to be joining this Fan Club. Ovations rule!

Hi Samantha...
I cannot find the thread that I was looking for...
But an OFC member had an Adamas that had the sound-holes plugged with ebony.
As to your top, it should be really thin Birch veneer sandwiched between two layers of Carbon Fiber.
Do not be surprised if the sales guy doesn't know what he is selling.
We are Ovation Geeks here.
That poor Sales guy sells all kinds of guitars, many of which he has never owned or played.
Anyway... Post some pics of your Adamas.
Or post a link to where we can see it.

Eventually someone with the authority will come along and grant you full access and visiting privileges.

Thanks Old Man.... yes, the plugs appear to be ebony. Wonder what the reasoning is? Volume levels maybe? I can always plug in so it's not a problem... thanks for your reply. Here is a pic of my guitar as advertised in the GC used gear page:

People plug soundholes to prevent feedback when playing live, but ebony seems extreme. You can buy rubber plugs which come out easily for unplugged work. If you want to get rid of them, a hole saw should do the trick, then you could clean up any excess on the inside with a small chisel.
