Any suggestions for materials to make a case for lap steel? Internal dimensions about 34" x 4" x 4". Would 14" ply be OK in terms of strength/weight ?

Yeah, the parts were cheap, really. It was all the design & hand work that tested my meddle. Got the electronics from China (FleaBay), the 1/4" ply from Home Depot, the vinyl fabric from Hancock Fabrics, the latches & hinges from Shanghai (FleaBay), foam & spray glue from Fred Meyer (local grocery/department superstore). About 30 man-hours later, "independent" amplification.

Yep. It's a 5-1/2x9x36-inch plywood box, covered with a vinyl fabric. The covers, over the speaker coils, are of the same plywood panel. I used 3/8-inch square wood stock, as the bolsters for the wood joints. Not likely to come apart, anytime soon.
