Can anyone tell me (before I tear into it) the proper method to replace the battery on my 1528D?

If you have a screw-head on the side of your bowl... Here's how you do it.

Loosen the strings until you can reach inside the bowl and grasp the battery.
Once you have it, turn that screw-head counter-clockwise 90 degrees.
If you have a battery box, once you get it out the top slides off.
Some of the older Ovations just have a clip-thingy that holds the batter up against some contacts.
If you have one of them you can just reach inside and remove the battery... sometimes.
If you are not sure of the condition of the clip thingy, you might want to take it out anyway to examine it for corrosion and such.

But I think that the most important thing is to know that the screw-thingy is Not a screw.
It is a retainer mechanism. To reattach it you reverse the process.
The easiest time to change the battery is when you are changing strings.
If you have a single knob, stacked knob, or OP-24 preamp, the battery will last for a LONG time.

Hope that helps.

Ahh, that's what that screw does. And, yes, I'd have been turning it repeatedly and thinking it was stripped or broken. Thank you for the info!
