OK, so a friend has a 2002 collectors with the OP40. The three bass strings are loud when plugged in, but the three treble strings don't have anywhere near the same volume. I just put in a new battery and it made no difference. What else could it be? All the wires are good and everything is plugged in where it should be. Do I need a new unit or is there something I can do to fix this?

OK, I have been messing with it for the past couple of hours and after reading several websites, I got it working. It seems the underside of the saddle wasn't making even pressure across the pickup. Did a little sanding and it is now working perfectly.

Congratulations.

I was searching to see which saddle/pickup the 2002 has...
I was gonna ask if there were any shims under there.
But you found the solution.

Another bid of knowledge added to the collective brain.

Check to make sure the underside of the saddle is making even pressure across the pickup. If not, then a little sanding should make it work perfectly. Happy to help, btw.

I know what REALLY fixed it. It was all of those words I used - the same ones my Dad use to use when he was working on a car.

Yup, when stringless the saddle should not be so tight in the Bridge that it can't come loose. Just tight enough to hold it in place and allow the string to soundboard energy to work.

Cuss'n a little don't hurt none either...

What I dislike about the saddle in this beast is the shape. It is wider than a "normal" saddle that you see in most wood boxes, but not as wide as the saddles in most O's. And it is rounded. Very hard to get a grip on it to pull it out. Instead, I had to take a micro screwdriver to the end to lift it, and then try to grab it.
