Location: Jet City | Just for fun, I thought I'd put some ebony buttons on the LX.
Any suggestions on where to get 'em? I don't want to end up with the wrong style. |

Location: Scotland | Stewmac have ebony buttons for Schaller M6 machines. I'm not sure if they are compatible with Ping tuners currently used on some Ovation models.
If someone has examples of Ovations with Schallers and Ping, any chance you could take off a Schaller button and see if it fits on the Ping shaft. I'd like to know myself, then I can offer my custom-made buttons for Ping tuners as well as Schaller and Gotoh. |

Location: Munich, Germany | I have/had Schaller ebony buttons on three guitars with Ping tuners. They all were around 2001-2005, so i think they would fit. But they sit very tight on the Pings.
Kurt
Paul, I can check tomorrow if your buttons fit on Pings as well and will report tomorrow in this thread. |

Location: Jet City | OK, so am I reading correctly? The Stewmac buttons should work on Pings? |

Location: Munich, Germany | Okay, checked it on different Ping tuners:
I have several Ping guitars and tuners here, this is what i found out:
Ping has changed the shaft size on the tuners in the last three-four years.
My Custom Elite is from 2005/6 (the Ovation page doesn't list the serial number, only says older than 2004), the Pings on it have the Schaller style shaft. This means, the Schaller buttons fit, but not perfectly. On some tuners they sit more tight than on others, which doesn't speak for the accuracy in keeping tolerances at the Ping factory.
The Koa/Contour Bowl Legend have Pings with the new style shafts, which are shorter and smaller. The Schaller buttons have some play (about 2 mm). They are usable, but I wouldn't accept that kind of play.
So, if your LX is newer than three years, I would check with the factory if they could get you some Ping ebonys.
Hope this helps,
Kurt
