Hey all. Just traded my Martin for a mint 1999 6868 elite. I've got a few questions if you all don't mind.

What's the finish on these? Mine seems to be sinking into the grain a bit, a look I actually like. Surprised though, since its likely poly?

Does this thing have a truss rod? Accessible through that hole in the back? Are they bi-directional?

The only "issue" is the nickel schallers have some faint fingerprints etched into some of them. Anyway to remedy this?

Was going to attach some pics, but not sure how from my ipad.

Thanks all!

One more quickie - do these have a bolted neck, or just glued on?

It sounds quite amazing. I got to hear it next to my Martin during the trade, and although not a high end (DR-1 USA made), to me the ovation sounded beautiful and articulate. Almost made the Martin sound like it was playing through mud. It sounds nicer than my Taylor as well. Very impressed, dare say, in love.

Photos always help.

But if it is a 1999 6868 Elite, it should have a bolt-on neck.
Take the back cover off and look inside.

If your Elite does not have a truss-rod cover, then you adjust the rod through the manhole cover.

Does your have outies like this one?

Thanks Arthur,

It does have outties, but they are many colored and the shape is different, the leaves kind of arch towards the bridge, looks like wings almost. Also the bridge doesn't have those little circles on it. It also has a pre amp with a tuner that only tunes the low E.

It's a cherry burst finish, very sharp. Overall the most beautiful guitar I've owned, and I have owned a few beauties. I wasn't sure about the epaulets at first, but they have grown on me and now I very much like them.

Does the '99 have the softer/more forgiving finish? I've read on here that they changed the finish at some point to help combat the tops cracking. Any ideas when this change occurred?

Thanks again! Great community here. Been following most threads when I joined last year, and even went through the archives. Some serious ovation knowledge collected on this forum. Great people too.
