Location: Corpus Christi, TX | Condition is everything of course. I sold my 1983 1547 about 4 years ago after the economy crunch for $1,200 plus took an 1869 custom legend in trade. The 1547 has a somewhat higher value since they are not readily available on the used market. I would say the 1537 asking price is a fair price for one in very good to exellent condition. A 1537 is a real tone monster |

Location: NH | I wondered if that was a crack or just a by product of the photo. If it's a crack, I wonder why the seller would take photos of the other ding and scuff and not even mention a crack.

Location: SoCal | Call the seller and ask. Maybe the finish crack had already been filled by the time they got it.
Take a good look at the fretboard photo... it appears that someone did a good job cleaning it up, but there is still green gunk left.
Might need some frets replaced and the fretboard filled and leveled. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | If the top is flawless, that would be a fair price. If it indeed has finish cracks, there are a couple more on ebay that are almost half that price. If it were me, I'd by an excellent condition one with finish cracks cheap, then send it to the mothership for a refinish job. Just my opinion. I had mine refinished, and it is the favorite of any I have owned or played. |

The gunk on the side of the fretboard may just be some missed polish or wax, but it could be glue. Glue residue anywhere towards the end of the neck makes me wonder if that suspiciously-located crack was a result of someone trying to glue the fretboard extension down onto the soundboard, (even though that glob is in the wrong area for that purpose.) The end of the fretboard on a 1537 is supposed to "float," with a thin gap underneath so it doesn't dampen the soundboard. We've seen plenty of them where folks apparently thought it was "coming up" so they glued them down, or worse. (Some have shown up with a bolt through the bottom of the fretboard to "hold it down." Ouch!)
All that said, in my opinion, a 1537 is easily "worth" the asking price (Now re-listed at $1,100.00), even with a crack (but probably not with the fretboard extension glued down.) However, it should be possible to find one in better shape for quite a bit less than that price with a little patience. They come up every once in a while. To those who have played them, they're by far one of the best wood-top models that Ovation ever made. But to the rest of the world, they're "just another Ovation." (That's actually a benefit of getting no respect…)
