Location: Cork, Ireland | I made tone control using a 250KoHm log pot and a 33nF capacitor. It does nothing over most of the range (10 to 3), then suddenly kicks in between 3 and 1. Would it be better with a linear taper? |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | Capacitor should be OK, 250k seems a bit small For the pot. Try 500k or even 1 meg. Not sure about the log / lin choice, though I THINK log is for tone and linear is for volume. Shoot off a message or email to McBarry, he's our resident tube amp guru down here.

Location: New Bern, NC | Over MY head!! And I thought I was pretty good at English! This sounds like "wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah..." to me. Remember the way the adults talk in the Charlie Brown cartoons? Yeah, like that. LOL I'm glad there are folks out there that know about this stuff so folks like me can move the little knob and say, "I like that sound." |

McBarry can give you the full details.
But my understanding is that you use log pots for volume as our hearing is logarithmic. I believe tone can be either and it depends on your preference.

Forgot to mention, regarding the capacitor value, all my schematics show the tone cap as either 0.0033uF or 0.01uF (3.3nF - 10nF) |

Location: Thredbo, NSW, Australia | I recently added a pre-amp to my banjo, which already had a pickup but no volume control.
The pre-amp was a kit from Jaycar, but didn't have a gain control. So I had to do some research and found out where to put a pot in for gain control. Hence my knowledge of what type of pot to use.
I didn't look into adding a tone control, but then some would say the tone of a banjo is too bad to bother with!

Location: Corpus Christi, TX | For three years, the young banjo player had been taking his brief vacations at this country inn. The last time he'd finally managed an affair with the innkeeper's daughter. Looking forward to an exciting few days, he dragged his suitcase up the stairs of the inn, and stopped short. There sat his lover with an infant on her lap!
"Helen, why didn't you write when you learned you were pregnant?" he cried. "I would have rushed up here, we could have gotten married, and the baby would have my name!"
"Well," she said, "when my folks found out about my condition, we sat up all night talkin' and talkin' and decided it would be better to have a bastard in the family than a banjo player."
