Location: Marlton, NJ | Ovation's official recommendation is to keep the humidity level between 40% and 60%. Most other acoustic guitar makes recommend a narrower range (45% to 55%?). In my old house, I had gas forced air heating, and humidity could get as low as 20% in the winter, so I kept all my acoustics in their cases all winter with humidifiers. But in my current house, I have a heat pump and the winters have been milder so the humidity has hovered slightly above 40%. I've put my Taylors in their cases with a humidifier, but I've kept my Ovations out - and would prefer to keep them out.
At what humidity level do you guys put your Os in their cases with a humidifier?

Location: Lebanon, TN | I have just replaced my main zone furnace with a complete Trane system including Air cleaner and humidifier. It is awesome and I am so delighted as I placed 4 hygrometers around the lower of the house and I am delighted to say that the humidity is now between 42-50 all the time. However my guitars live upstairs where with the heating it bounces around 22-38, so the boys and girls stay mostly in their cases. The K1111 and the 1537 however are very happy on the stand downstiars :-)

Location: Jet City | Man, I'd love to get that installed here, but we just lease the place. We are getting a new NG furnace installed soon though (I hope). Last year ran us nearly $5k in heating oil.

Location: Utah | The Royal College of Music in London has a small but impressive museum of instruments. Many of the instruments go back 400 years. Needless to say, this is a climate controlled room. They have versions of violins, guitars, cellos, pianos, flutes, etc.
Here's a picture of their hygrometer. If 30% is good for preventing decay in this museum, 30% is a safe number for our guitars though a higher % may be recommended by manufacturers for tone or just to match their factory. I think stability in humidity is probably more important than the exact % humidity. I keep our music room at home set at 40%.
Some of their guitar collection. One of these is dated 1650, so they are old.
