Location: Visalia, CA | Hello all ---- I am learning as a I go, but still a relative neophyte here. I am looking at a couple of 12-string guitars, some of which indicate they are a Pacemaker, and others note nothing. For example, I am looking at an Ovation 1115-4, which appears to be a "Pacemaker" according to the Ovation archive site. The other listed on there is a 1615. I presume a big difference is that the former is acoustic and the latter an A/E. Now, here pop up a couple more on ebay, looking a lot like the other two, only with numbers like 1118 (Glen Campbell's name is on there) and 1618 (a Glen Campbell model, per the O site), both of which may have more bling and different materials? I don't know. Perhaps it is just like an F-150 versus a Ranger.
Thanks for any help in a 12-string primer.

Location: Phoenix AZ | 1115 and 1615 are Pacemaker
1118 and 1618 are GC 12-String
All of them are 12-fret slotheads
Some early pre-1970 1115 were simply called "12-String" or "12-String Balladeer".

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Both are 12-frets to the body, deep bowl, non-cutaway, spruce topped, absolutely STONKING good 12-strings. The Pacemaker is loosely equivalent to a slot-head Custom Balladeer with fan bracing, while the GC is roughly an upgrade to Legend materials and aesthetics (gold tuners, bound fretboard, etc.) with either fan or VT-12 bracing (I think).
They are both top-of-the-line instruments. And you are correct: 1115 and 1118 are acoustic-only while 1615 and 1618 are A/E.

Location: Caribou, ME | Yep I had a senior moment with the 12/14 fret thing. I was thinking Classic/Country Artist or something... I don't know... I probably just tied my shoes and was reeling from the brain exertion.
I just bought a Glen Campbell off ebay yesterday for $115.
It needs um... a minor repair...
Another pic does show a crack in the top, likely happened at the same time as the explosion. For that price, I'm keeping my glass half full. We'll see maybe by the end of the week what I bought. |
