Location: big island | here's an online seller who has a page with about 10, so far, specs and audio-visual comparisons between martin and blueridge guitars. he sells both. this sure lends credence though to the quality of blueridges.

Location: Detroit Mi | One gets the impression he is using his Martin franchise as a foil to hype Blueridge. He forgets he has a fiduciary obligation to both manufacturers and he does not respect it, nor the facility of buyers to compare for themselves (rather than through Media Player.) |

Location: Foothills of Mt. Rainier | Maury has most helpful to me over the last couple of years and I would not hesitate to purchase a guitar from him. Blueridge have kind of a cult status linked to them around here...sort of a poor man's Martin is how some describe them. As money grows tighter I think Maury will sell more of the Blueridge guitars. I live in the remote foothills of Mt Rainier washington and the closest dealer for Ovation or Martin is about a 150 mile round trip. With gas at $3.49 a gal I appreciate what Maury is doing. |

I have stock of A's, B's and C's.
When I am overstocked (undersold) with C's and I start advertising them more and make direct comparisons to A and B's am I in peril of losing my licence to sell A's and B's? By the way, the A's are overpriced.
Or should I just mind my P's and Q's? |

Location: Scotland | As good as Blueridge guitars can be, this is a pretty ridiculous excerise. First of all buying any guitar is not just about sound, it's also about feel, construction, materials, the prestige of owning a "name" and all those undefinable qualities that make a guitar speak to you. (Like a nice case - Witko) Even something as crazy as smell. Stick your nose into a Martin soundhole and then into something from a Chinese factory and I know which guitar you'd buy, regardless of price.
AND, more importantly, anyone with reasonable recording equipment and half a clue about mike technique and EQ could deliberately make a $10,000 Brazillian rosewood cannon sound like a piece of crap and equally, really flatter a cheap guitar, so who knows how accurate something like this really is? |

The subtle nuances of a guitar can't be captured on a WAV file. It may sound similar, but the total experience is what most people are after. |

Most people are listening through computer speakers and a small portion will have a good set hooked up.
I have my studio monitors to listen through (Focal Twin6 Be's) and I can't tell the difference between these so-called "comparisons" 80% of the time. |

I can't get arrested for "sniffing" my soundholes.......can I?
Next bluegrass jam I am going to play Rocky Racoon when it comes my time to call the tune....I wonder how it will sound bluegrass style?
Maury is just trying to make his living in the guitar business...and that is pretty hard from what I can see...so he is trying different things to help sell some guitars.I have a gut feeling that we are going to lose a bunch of guitar dealers over the next couple of years as folks extra income goes to pay for fuel and groceries and not an extra guitar.

i know that internet files and the computer setups everyone listens to will never reproduce the accurate sound, BUT these comparisons on this site appear to level the sonic playing field. feel, fit , finish and sniffing can only be determined hands-on. it's all relative if the recording setup is the same for each guitar and there were no tweaks to enhance the recorded sound of any one of them. since this seller represents both brands (for now, at least), he has no motivation to tweak or misrepresent either brand.
if you are listening through junk speakers, both guitars in a particular comparison are gonna sound junk.
i've not strummed a blueridge yet. no dealer on this island is carrying them, or USA O's for that matter. and so far, guitars cannot be cyber-sniffed either. |
