So the latest new "family member" arrived and it is a pretty one.  Wanted a current gen LX Contour bowl for playing out.  I was however mystified by the seller's description of it being a wide neck but sure enough popped the case today to find....a wide neck C2079LX.

I have to think this was a custom order for someone as it also has two neck straplok buttons, one in the normal place and another in the classic alternate location below the neck block in the cutaway.  You can just see it in the picture.

Did this belong to anyone here (or anyone you know?)  It originated in the Northwest to come to me.  I have to travel now today and only issues are the strings seem dead despite being shiny, and the nut seems a tiny bit small for the neck and has an excess of glue spill.  Looks like it (nut) might have been replaced sloppily.

Any thoughts on this being standard production versus custom?

Stuart

That's an interesting looking beastie. Must have been ordered/owned by someone with fat fingers.

Kewl. I've done this to both of my cutaway Ovations. I thought I was the only one who did this. I guess not.

Personally, I like this location much better as the Ovations feel very secure when playing and aren't constantly trying to slip out from under my right arm. The contour bowl Ovation is as secure as any flat-back guitar.

I've been experimenting with strings on my guitars and found that the larger body guitars, such wood dreadnoughts and deep and/or contour bowl Ovations with PB strings sound 'subdued', even when the strings are new. I restrun with 80/20s and they all sound much better. Interestingly, the medium-depth bowls sound better with the PBs.
