Location: Fort Worth, TX | I should tell you straight up I have profound lack of knowledge regarding the various models and their corresponding numbers that Ovation produced. I did a Google image search for a 1537 after a recommendation for them I got in an email from another OFC'r. I found several that had a center, round soundhole that was clearly identified as being a 1537 in the text below the pic. Is this info wrong? He mentioned one with "flush epaulets" too, is that a variation of a 1537? Do 1537's rarely show up for sale anymore? I have to own one before my number is up, but have to find an unbelievable deal on it since I exist on a disability income. |

And, all 1537's have epaulets.

Furthermore, you said "I have to find an unbelievable deal on one", while nerdydave is willing to spend any amount of money (I took a little liberty with that). I don't see any need for a "Rule Book check" |

Tony's 1537 will not be cheap. |

They were in high demand even back in the day. |

His first post in this thread states he is actively looking for one to buy. I only wanted to see what BobG would come up with in a reply. I could really care less how many people pirate this thread to their own end. I believe that somewhere out there is an Elite to die for the Universe has already tagged me as the next owner of.
Until it surfaces, all the rest of them can be the object of bidding wars, and usurped threads. |

I believe YOUR usurped threads were due to incontinence... |

Officially, at midnight tonight I am RETIRED. Sold my company which I have had since 1990, seven days a week. We have provided behavior modification to adults and juveniles assigned by court, probation, and parole AT NO COST TO THE TAXPAYER - offender pays as it should be. Fun things such as assault/battery, theft, shoplifting, etc. Fortunate that this company will continue as the buyer has been with me since 19930
Little time in the last three weeks to even play my 60+ guitars.
Soon, I will be looking at the A's, O's, and Taks that I will consider selling.
Whether the 1537, a prototype Elite, or several others...never been led astray by a guitar from Bill Kaman. This even shared some time in Charles' home.
It is just that when I want to be nostalgic and mellow out, I have a tendency to pick up the 68-69 GC Artist, the 68 Deluxe Balladeer, #50 pre-production Adamas slot-head, or the Martin D-25K2.
If I am not playing a guitar, then it is offered.

With that said, if you are just looking for a good "player" guitar, and are willing to tolerate something with a repaired crack in the top, you may eventually find one. They are truly special guitars, and worth any reasonable investment. |

Location: Always beautiful canyon country of Utah | Amazing all that happened while I was out hiking in the beautiful desert and canyon country of southeastern Utah! To my defenders I offer thanks -- to my attackers I offer the utmost compassion. For we are all of the same ilk here -- Ovation lovers till we depart this mortal coil. In the end there will be enough 1537's to go around to those who simply cannot survive without them. I wish luck to those who seek them ardently -- if I get one it will be sweet. If I do not I will continue to enjoy my 1681-9 and rejoice in the fact that I am one of the 1% -- the 1% who have been privileged to play an Adamas before crossing that bridge from which no man returns (and only a few women!). Thank you all for your participation in this lively discussion -- stay sweet forever!! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I missed a day and came back to this thread with 3 posts that brought out some envy:
1. I am happy with my 1537, but envious of Damon"s, which I saw again last week. A beautiful sunburst that he got for a ridiculous price. I hope he never has to sell that until some lottery winner makes him an offer he can't refuse;
2. Tony's retirement. Congrats to a great guy. I'm not far behind. We met with a retirement planner last night and found out we have a 90% chance of retiring fairly comfortably in a couple years and could do so next year when I turn 60. Now to figure out whether I want to ease out or walk out and not look back;
3 Dave's hike in the Utah canyons. I made a quick trip to Arches a couple years ago and really want to get back down to southern Utah when we can spend some time. Tentative plans have started for a few Memorial Day trips down to Santa Fe, with stops in Utah (which brings me back to being jealous of Tony's retirement).
Congratulations guys. |

This country is in serious financial shape and is going to have no choice but to come after those that have any money at all. Unless you HATE your job, I would continue to work at some capacity to generate additional income....in other words, "ease out." |

Wishing the rest of you out there the happiest and most meaningful of holiday seasons -- especially DaveKell who remains looking for a 1537 to share some time with before moving through the veil. Signing off from the aforementioned desert and canyon country. siempre nerdydave |

I have owned and sold about 5-6 of these over the years in natural, black, and amazing tobacco sunburst and eventually sold them all. Great guitars but I guess I am just more of an Adamas kinda guy. |

I also don't see knobs which makes some sense since the bridge is an acoustic only. I know a couple shallow ones were made, but I don't know if they share the same model# If it was a 1537 at some point it isn't one anymore.

Damon, it's an acoustic only 1337 (I think that was the model designation -- somebody will correct me if I'm wrong). A few were made, but not many. I would guess that the top has been re-surfaced (again, the correct term is eluding me) where the bridge and epaulets, along with the finish are ground off. The top is refinished (this is normally done to correct finish checking/cracks) and a new bridge and epaulets are put on. Those epaulets look too new to be original, and the bridge just isn't.
As to the truss rod cover, I've seen a number of guitars where somebody has glued on a decorative truss rod cover just because they like the look...... |

What a cool idea. WOnder if I could crack some brains by gluing on a Glen Campbell signature TRC to my 1768C Elite? |
