I bought this guitar new in 2005 for my teenage daughter. As a longtime guitarist, I liked my Ovation Al DiMeola #1769 model so much that I decided on another Ovation for her first guitar. Ultimately she didn't have the time or inclination to learn to play guitar, yet has remained attached to it and has not wanted to part with it until recently. She's in college now and needs money because her car is dying, so she's reluctantly selling it.
The guitar is in extremely good shape with no real evidence of use, because it hasn't seen much use at all. No bridge separation, the neck is straight, all the electrics work fine. The bright-red onboard chromatic tuner is clearly visible and extremely helpful to have, particularly if you play out and/or in darkened areas.
I had some custom work done by a professional luthier at the time of purchase, as follows: Round 9/32" abalone fret-marker dots were installed on frets 3, 5, 7, 9, 15, 17 & 19, because Ovation inexplicably left them off, except for their 12th fret swoosh-like octave marker. Seriously, Ovation?? A guitar without fret markers is like a book without page numbers (especially for a beginner), right? So I had them installed. They are perfect, and look as if they came pre-installed from the factory. Plus functionally they allow you to see which fret you're playing on, obviously...
Also added was an abalone dot on either side of the bridge, plus a very cool all-abalone truss-rod cover (I also still have the original Collectors' script truss-rod cover; see attached pics). The extra abalone work is beautiful and really brightens up the guitar!
This guitar has Ovation's deep body but with a flattened contour back, which makes it much more comfortable to play than their standard rounded big-bowl shape (really wish my DiMeola had that!). It sounds great, whether played acoustically or electrically, and plays beautifully, too. It's currently strung with D'Addario phosphor bronze Custom Lights (.011-.052), which make for easy playing, but it could take lighter or heavier strings if you're so inclined.
Please respond if you have any questions or would like to buy it. I'm located in Hartford, CT and would like to sell it fairly locally in a cash transaction only, with bills verified by a counterfeit-detector marker. Yes, unfortunately modern life has come down to this. What a shame.

NOTE: Serious inquiries only, please! Thanks, but no, you can't "take it off my hands" for only $500 or $600. I will remove the post as soon as the guitar sells, so there's no need to ask if it's still available or not.
SCAMMERS: Don't EVEN waste your time or mine. I WILL NOT ACCEPT money orders, checks, Western Union, promissory notes, handwritten IOUs, references from your church leader, urgent emails from your 'assistant' while you are traveling stating you will pay $50 over the asking price, or a note from your Mommy verifying that you are "good for the money." Seriously, scammers have gotten this bad and this ridiculous...

Good luck with the sale,

For some reason, I was unable to reduce the size of guitar photos enough to attach to my original thread. Please use this link to Craigslist/Hartford CT to see them. Thank you.

Tried to edit the original entry to include the Craiglist link, but couldn't because it had exceeded 30 minutes. Sorry, I tried to include them!

| I just re-read my little rant on scammers at the end of the first post.
Not happy that I came off sounding so touchy, but I've been absolutely barraged by Craigslist scammers and the guitar hasn't even been posted for a full day yet! Unreal. Figured it's better to give them advance notice, but they probably don't even read the ads, I guess. Sorry...I'm not that grumpy normally.

Diplomacy ain't your strong suit, huh?
Never read "How to Win Friends and Influence People"?
I think that you will be keeping that one for a while.

Location: NJ | if you are looking at the fingerboard and not at the dots on the edge of a fingerboard you have a problem.
most classical guitars have not dots on the fingerboard.
many players prefer the blank board. personally I think it helps with understanding where you are on the fingerboard and makes you a better player.

Location: SoCal | I can appreciate your frustration with Craig's List. However, on this forum we do not need a spammer lecture. Granted, you may get a lower offer but that is what a potential buyer is willing (or can pay). Worst that you do is say no. The 2005C is a great guitar but this is not a good economy.
Any comments that you receive concerning your listing are to help you. We have a good group...relax.
I have sold or traded a number of guitars with other members of the OFC and never had a problem.

| Gotcha, thanks.
I didn't have that spammer rant on my Craigslist ad; only added it to the OFC ad (which was placed later that same day as the Craigslist ad) because I was hit with so many obvious Craigslist scams.
Was the first time I had posted anything for sale online, and frankly was not prepared for that kind of blatant scamming at all. So figured I'd do a pre-emptive strike to prevent that from happening when posting to OFC; wasn't intending to offend anyone on this site, just was still smarting from the blizzard of bogus CL emails.
Happily, haven't had any problems here, and I'm grateful for that and the feedback I've gotten. And I did state that I'd take the best reasonable offer...

+1 Tony Calman - 2012-11-26 11:08 AM I can appreciate your frustration with Craig's List. However, on this forum we do not need a spammer lecture. +2 You could try asking one of the moderators to edit your post and remove the 'rant'... BTW, I have an '05ES - I highly recommend them. GREAT guitar. Personally, I like the LACK of bling on this model. I always wanted an Al Di Meola, but the '05 came along at the right time and right price. I think of it as a contour bowl ADII without the boost button.

| Can someone please tell me how to delete this entire listing, since the guitar has now been sold?
I've tried different approaches but none have worked! Emailed the Administrator twice, but haven't heard back either time.
Thanks for any directions you might offer, I really appreciate it.
