It's time to start planning for the Southern Style Jam II. SWMBO has consented to having the Jam at our home in Simpleville (Simpsonville, SC) this year and also agreed to a weekend event (as opposed to tha one day event last year in Asheville).

We won't have to worry about the heat or rain, but if the weather behaves, I have a large backyard, deck and patio that we can take full advantage of. There is room for a few to crash here and nearby hotels for those that prefer not to stay up until the wee hours playin songs from the songbook.

I am looking at either June 13-15 or June 20-22 and would appreciate everyone's input as to their preferred date. Early arrivals and/or late departures are not a problem.

I hope to see the "usuals" and some noobs here and will do my best to provide all with some good 'ol Southern Hospitality.

Sounds like a good time Jimbo. Baring any unforeseen circumstances, count me in. Dates are flexible.

And a good time WILL be had by all! June 20-22 is probably better for me. I know I won't have to convince Nicky! And odds are SWMBO will probably tagalong as well.

OK, sounds like a plan...June 20-22 works for me: the earlier date won't...I'm in at this point! Still need to check swmbo's schedule...I've got the PA and the transportation to bring "several" guitars...lol

Six to seven attendees (plus families) is not bad for a little over 12 hours......and I really look forward to seeing all of y'all again (even TRboy :p ).

All of those that have said they will attend have been to either the Southern Style Jam I, Zillafest or the g8rBowl or all of them in some cases. Some of us will be at Amelia in a coupla weeks too. We have had a great time at each and have been extended the best hospitality that can be had.

I have seen a number of new members join the OFC since the first Southern Style Jam, last year, and y'all should really come and join us. It is a super opportunity to get a chance to play Ovations and Adamii, of many different flavors, that you may have only read about before. (WARNING: GAS is a common side effect of these events). I really enjoy these get togethers and have established new friendships from each one.

Sooooo..............C'MON DOWN (or up) AND JOIN US!!!! If you can't come for the whole weekend, fell free to drop in anytime from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

You won't regret it.

Jim

My knowledge of Southern geography is not too good. Any of you guys close to Charlotte, NC the weekend before July 4? By close, I mean within about 100 miles. It might be closer if I don't have a rental car.

I got the links to work TR, but they pointed to Charlotte.

Simpsonville, SC, is conveniently located 7 miles south of Greenville, SC. Which is between Charlotte, NC (100 miles NE) and Atlanta, Ga.(140 miles SW) on I-85. We actually have an International Airport..teehee.. (GSP).

If anyone would like to fly in, I will be happy to send the Beggin Limo ('75 Opel GT) to pick ya up!!

Google maps lists 113 miles to T.R. from Charlotte but it takes you all the way into Greenville to pick up I85 but I go by way of Greer/Spartanburg and trim about 9 miles off....(Moonshine backroads ;) )

Thanks Mike!

ummmm...aaahhhh...seems to me me that you and SWMBO are just about 3 1/2 hours away from here....not a real journey as such, but just a lovely little drive thru tha Blueridge Mountains (to which, I hope to be a resident of someday).

I know that Dolly would be quite mad if y'all weren't there for a weekend, BUT, you would have a lot more fun here.

Just food for thought friend!!!

BTW: where have I seen that picture before??!!

Seems as if the weekend of June 20-22 is the date that most are available. We are busy the weekend before the 4th so that is out.

Therefore the Southern Style Jam II will be the weekend of June 20-22. Mark it on your calendars!!

Seriously, I was thinking of bringing the 1598 Adamas. Not sure yet, I really don't want to be the "odd man" bringing a non Ovation product like I did at G8r bowl, although every one was cool with it. I know you want me to bring the CEO.

When Dr. Porsche was asked what his favorite car was, he said, "We haven't built it yet." Same for guitars. The best one is the one you're playing, but the next one you play will be better. Only because it will be different. None will be perfect.

Back when I entered one of my early phases of midlife crisis, SWMBO allowed that the sports car phase was going to be much cheaper than the bimbo phase. (We had a few friends and the usual run of politicians that were going through the bimbo phase at the time.) She didn't know about the guitar phase at the time and I'm not sure that bimbos are any cheaper than SWMBOs, but I could come up with a bunch of analogies between guitars, cars and women. Guitars are the cheapest, though.

Whats the difference between a Bluegrass Guitar Player and a Jazz Guitar Player?
A Bluegrass guitarist plays 3 chords for 1,000 people.
A Jazz guitarist plays 1,000 chords for 3 people.

Q: What is the difference between a banjo and a South American Macaw?
A: One is loud, obnoxious and noisy; the other is a bird.

Q: What do you say to the banjo player in the three piece suit?
A: Will the defendant please rise.

What's the difference between a banjo and an Onion: no one cries when you cut up a banjo.

Upon hearing from his doctor that he only had six months to live, a man exclaimed, "But doctor, is there anything I can do?"
"I'm afraid not." said the doctor. "But, there is one thing you could try..."
"What, what, I'll try anything..."
"Find yourself a homely girl that plays the banjo and move to Pittsburgh."
"Will that help me live longer?"
"No, but it will make time go by really slowly..."

Man, this post turned bad in a hurry, although I'm kind of enjoying seeing someone else get picked on. (maybe I'd better just shut up, sit in the corner and play my drums...)

I much as I enjoy tha "pickin" on TRboy and his banjo, let me try to get back on topic for a moment.....

Seems that there are a lot of people here that live within a 2 to 3 hour drive from Simpsonville, SC. If you can't make it for tha whole weekend, maybe consider coming up on Saturday, June 21st, for tha day. Some of us will be tired and cranky, from stayin up half the night on Friday, but we would still love to have tha extry company.

If you take a look at the sig lines, of those that have said they are coming, you will see that there will be a huge variety of O's and A's here.

hmmm.....cranky people and reasons to start a new case of gas....if that don't make ya want to come visit...

Oh well, all are welcome!

I've got a suggestion: Why don't everyone who's planning to attend, bring at least one new song (words AND chords :o ) that they'd like to add to the ole standbye/standards!

Also everyone have a song that they'd like to "perform" either solo or acompanied....much like what we do at the tour jams. You don't have to perform if you don't want to but just maybe......

I'm not a singer by any stretch of the imagination but I've found it easier to slaughter a couple of songs (and have fun!) in front of a small group of people (friends) instead of a large crowd.(half the time they're not listening to me anyways....gives everyone a chance to take a piss break!)

In fact it's getting harder for everyone to get me to shut-up.... :D

TR, that sounds good, a Macaw AND a banjo together!

Jimbo, I'll only be able to bring one guitar to this one 'cause we'll be in the Hyundai (stinkin fuel prices, ya know) so I'm trying to decide which one. I'll probably just make it a surprise...(to you and myself)

Now that the Guitar 'd Gras is in the history books, it's time to start workin again on tha Southern Style Jam II.

I would like to thank Mrs. 'Zilla for her tireless recruiting effort in Amelia Isle this past weekend. I hope that some of our new friends from there will be able to attend.

After having some discussions with the 'Zillas and g8r's, I want to throw out a few suggestions for the weekend.

Friday night (morning and afternoon too, if you arrive early) and Saturday we could do the group jammin, song singin thing. This can include NEW songs that haven't been played at previous (SS Jam I, 'Zillafest, g8rbowl) gettagethers. We can also have the "song writers" event as previously mentioned, as well as a general backyard group Jam.

Since so many SWMBO's will be attending, I thought that Saturday night we could go to Downtown Greenville for dinner and take in a few live music venues. There are also a couple of acoustic bars that may be having open playing sessions, for those that aren't tired of playing and singing and wish to perform. Of course there will also be a late evening jam session back at my house.

There are many great parks and attractions for tha little ones as well as shopping galore.

All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Currently, my 2 spare bedrooms have been reserved by OFC'ers and families (still some couchs available for you soloing guys), however, my son has offered a bedroom or two at his house (I will confirm that with his SWMBO). There are also many hotels within 3 miles from my house. PM me for housing info.

Come one, come all!! You might even be able to get me to make up a fine batch of grits fer ya. ;) :D

Man, that sounds fun, Jimbo. I wouldn't mind a sleeping spot somewhere. I may try to get Adam to come. If we're having a songwriting expo, what's the topic?

I haven't written a song in 10 years, so I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Trader, what's all this Martin talk? I guess it's too much to ask that we keep it free of such pollutants?

Sorry, I really don't know what I'm going to bring. I'm bringing the family in a Hyundai Elantra, so there won't be any room for more than one guitar. We're going on to a cabin in NC afterwards, so I
have been regulated to only one guitar. I'll surprise you. :D

Now there's an idea I haven't thought of....pickin and plowin!!! I'll add it to the list of suggested activities.

For some reason, I am hearing a banjo playing off in the distance. I must need to catch up on my sleep.

Well, it didn't take long for reality to shake me back to earth: while I was gone at Amelia, the VBS committee met and picked June 18th thru 22nd as the dates for our combined Vacation Bible School: so no Southern Jam 08 for me...I guess they wanted to avoid the heat in August and try to be the first of the area churches to have a VBS: most of the area kids try to make all of the VBS programs during the summer. So, not much I can do about it! Ya'll have fun and Jim: no middle of the night Huddle House Runs...OK?
I'll be thinking about you all!

Music, good for the kids and sad for us. You will be sorely missed.

I will have to find a new Huddle House participant....hopefully all of the Simpleville police force will be asleep if we go. ;)

As I've said on many occasions before, no one wants to hear me play plugged in, so it won't be an issue with me if we do it all acoustic. I won't have room to bring the drum though, so we'll have to make do without it. Sorry I won't be able to meet you Mike. Some things are more important though...

Folks, I'm bummed...but that unfortunatly is the nature of this occupation: I was expecting to be called away at any minute from Amelia. Thankfully, I was not! Sorry about the PA...any Music stores that do rentals in Greenville Jim?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. It depends on the new help they are hiring. I know that is a scary thought.

I have plenty of drums here...thanks to my son.

And his old band has a PA system that I bought for them....if it doesn't work out, I will go to the pawn shop, that I trade services with, and pickup something that we can use.

g8r, I was runnin to try and get Matt a git and missed alot of the setup that Paul was doing. I am sure that he would be happy to refresh me on the basics if asked though. There are a few people around Simpleville, that I know, that would be happy to help if asked.

As Paul Hogan used to say, "no worries mate"!

Jim, I haven't had any big gear for years but I have built and run some fairly large systems. Would be happy to help with sound any way I could.

If I'm imagining this to be larger than it is and the PA needs are much lighter, I've got a little Peavey Escort I would be happy to volunteer. Never been to The Jam so I'm not really sure what you need. The Peavey isn't much, just a little 4 channel 150W with two 10" satellite speakers on stands, but if you're just after vocals it sure beats yelling. It will reinforce a couple guitars with vocals too, in a pinch. Got three mics and stands available also. If any of this is of use just say the word.

Otto

Otto, at a jam, you don't really NEED anything. Anything that adds to it is a plus (unless it's a non-O guitar), but the real magic of a jam is the people you meet.

Otto, the good Cap'n is right, as always, however, I must say that Music bringing his PA last year was a fantastic addition.

This, literally, will be a backyard Jam this year, so an overpowering PA would only serve to get us arrested. ;) We would gladly accept your offer and can add a few small amps to the mix for guitars. Some of us (ME) prefer that our sound is not amped, so as not to ruin the mix. We will put it all together the closer we get.

Current defs and maybes include:

Defs at this point:
1) Me and Mrs. Beggin
2) Capn Lovehandles and son Adam (who has more talent than us)
3) The Infamous TRboy and Mrs. Tr (along with some strange instruments)
4) g8r, Mrs. G and son and some of his beautiful bevy of O's and Tak's
5) Trader Jim, Mrs. TJ and son (no one knows what he may bring, but it will be only one guitar, guarantee it's a good un)
6} Designzilla and Mrs. Zilla and some of his fantastic collection of O's and A's
7) CrimsonLake, Mrs. CL and son Nicky (also more talented than us) and some of his wild assortment of O's and A's
8) Otto with his PA and new (to him) Ovation (counting you as a def, based on your statement, boy are you in for some fun)

Maybe's:
9) Capo Guy and his assortment of gits and capos (if Dolly will let him go)
10) cholloway with his original slothead as well as his tractor and plow

If I have mispoken or left anyone out, please speak up. A few more have mentioned that they may come, but weren't ready to commit yet.

Anyone else????? Still plenty of time for planning.

THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I need 2 things for a jam. An Ovation and a cooler of beer. I don't even need a chair. I'll sit on the cooler until I need to get another beer. A whole bunch of different Ovations are nice, but not essential. I'm easily satisfied.

Tim, glad to see that y'all will be coming.

For those that have not had the pleasure of meeting Tim, you are in for a great treat!! He is a real nice guy with an easy goin attitude to match, and at 6'10" and 300 lbs that's a good thing. (OK, maybe I exaggerated about his size a bit there). :D

Come to think of it, there's not a soul that I have met from the OFC that isn't friendly.

Boy, this jam is really taking off! Now for a word from our sponsor.... I have an extra 9158 case in next to mint condition for sale and a Fender Acoustasonic SFXII amp for sale also. I bought it off StephenT and don't have the occasion to use it at all now. Plus, I just bought a set of Tama Rockstar drums, and need the room. If anyone is interested in either one, I can bring it/them to the jam and save on the shipping. I would like to get 75.00 for the case. I paid StephenT 500.00 for the amp, and would take 450.00 for it. As you can expect, coming from him it is in new condition. The foot controller is still in the plastic shrink wrap and it has the original 5 year warranty card with it, unfilled out. Let me know if you would like either one or both and I can bring them up. Now, back to our regular thread...

I cut the yard yesterday, for the first time this year. Many reasons for waiting so late, Amelia Isle trip, too lazy, playing new songs, too lazy, grass too high to cut, too lazy, cutting would reveal all the holes that occureed because of drought and a broken sprinkler sytem, too lazy.

The grass won't be in good shape by the Jam, but at least any abuse that it get's won't hurt it either. TRboy says he has a tent, of some sort, to help protect us from the afternoon sun, and we will need it. Or we can head inside to tha comfort of a little A/C.

Man, I just called Beggin to converse a little, and I asked him if he was busy. He said he was just playing the guitar. That's happened the last couple of times I called. I'm afraid he's going to be MUCH better that the last time I saw him, which will put me to shame since I haven't found much time to practice. I'd better get busy!

TJ, talk about finding time...

I took off this past week and:
1) Hung with the fam (spring break)
2) Took in a Seven Story Fall concert.
3) Put together a new grill.
4) Got a new puppy (Humane Society adoption), German Shepherd mix (mutt)
5) Did yard work like Jim, first good time this year.
6) Headed up to the N. GA mountains by myself (where I am now), trout fishing, playing guitar, and I built a cigar box guitar (I'm at my wife's parents house in the mtns, while they are in Nebraska, and Paw-in-law has a nice shop. And the great thing is... my cell doesn't work here.

Doing pretty much everything that I "don't have time for".... priceless. I'm heading out now to fish some more.

Oh, I even got to speak to Capo Guy on the phone. Prince of a guy.

Jas,

Your Sister In Law and her husband made it to Dollywood. Yea, I was working while you guys were having fun. I did get a quick look at Dolly as she rode by in the parade.

Funny she never looks any older, and I do.

Less than two months til tha JAM....

Funny, but, we all (most of us coming to tha JAM) have done this a few times and apparently have lost a little of the pre-JAM witty repartee...that's OK 'cause it will give us more to kid around about when y'all get here..

Have y'all been practicin your new songs?

Have y'all been playin your new O's, A's, other brands?

Are y'all ready for a GOOD TIME?

Are there any NEW songs to add to the OLD songbook?

Does anyone need any help acquiring room reservations or directions to Simpleville?

...or is it that we have done this a few times and know what to expect, so the pre-Jam newness has worn off (but the experience itself will remain another gathering of good friends, good music and another example of TRboy noodleing (sic) with an unknown musical instrument or other device)?

It is not to late for you NOOBS to decide to come and join us.

Jas..YES!

Somewhere in this thread, it was suggested that we write and perform a song (no theme).

It could be a fun (?) diversion to the songbook run thru.

However, a few covers could be just as fun...your choice really. You and Adam could come up with a great tune, I have no doubt. Or, perform one of his bands tunes, unplugged?!

Beg, I HOPE the Adman will be coming. He's going to the Bonaroo festival and we're heading down to New Smyrna all in June, and who knows what 7SF will be cooking around that time. At any rate, I hope you or TR have a piece of floor for me to sack on.

Great. I started writing my song on the way to work. It should be quite underwhelming to you all.

Maybe I'll get TR to play mandolin and Zilla to play slide to dress it up a little.

Can't wait. I had an idea for a song, then the thing went in a strange direction, so I scrapped it for later, and started a new song. I need to get the lyrics finalized so I can learn it.

I really liked my original idea, so maybe I'll have that one for the next jam.

A PA system (newly acquired from CList) will be provided by our friend TRboy with 8 xlr and/or 1/4" inputs. Microphones are also included. If you want to plug in via xlr, it may be a good idea to bring your own chord.

If anyone has music stands and the room to transport them, it would be appreciated.

I'll be there with wife and kid. Staying at the Holiday Inn around the corner from Beggin's. We're driving in on Friday and staying through Sunday midday.

Equipment: 2 music stands, 2 mike stands (one boom), my brand spanking new Digitech Vocalist 2.

Guitars: what ever I can fit in the VW with suitcases. Probably just a 6 & 12 string (but not the doubleneck).

Can't wait :D :D :D

Southern Style JamII 2 week notice!

Don't forget guitar stands and any sheet (chord) music that you want everyone to join in on. I have song books from the SSJI, Zillafest and g8rbowl, as well as the "100" songs from Slipkid.

Still not too late to make plans to join us!!!!

HEY! On vacation for the last week, and wrote 2 and a half songs! I will be performing at least one at the jam. I hope I'm not the only one working on this.

Also, something fun happened Thursday night. I pestered my nephew Sean (just graduated college) all week about playing an open mic (we were in New Smyrna Beach). He finally gave in and we went to a coffee house and he played 3 songs and did great. Adam said I should sign up too. I didn't want to make the night "not about Sean". I was really proud of him.

Randy, if you want to fly up, bring that Adamas I you just got, and I'll give you the 1200.00 you spent for it. Should be enough to pay for the airfare... :D

Honor among thieves, Randy. You have to give me first crack at it! We belong to a cartel now. ;) Nothing personal Trader, it's a thief thing. ;)

Seriously, nice grab, sir! Sure would be cool to see you at the jam. Any chance that you might make it?

These guys in thongs are just kidding. I mean, they wouldn't actually.... not really, right? Naaahh... This is just more of that cheeky banter isn't it..? oh jeez...

Well Otto....there are pictures here (somewhere) of guys in coconut bras and grass skirts, from a previous Tour Jam.

I am pretty sure that local Simpleville ordinances will not stand for "Men in thongs"...I will call the city offices tomorrow to verify.

TJ, traditional OFC shirts are always suggested...clothing optional is not.

Thongs, however, are highly discouraged....unless you are coming from a large metropolis like Hotlanta, ...(BTW: TRboy..you DO NOT live a a large metropolitan area..REPEAT:DO NOT).

...How about Fishnets with a Thong?!!

With temperatures in the triple digits here lately a "clothing optional" jam is startin' to make more sense!....unless we can turn Jimbo's A/C down to 40 below!!

It reached 100* here yesterday and I'm in the foothills of the mountains.....I can imagine Jim was scorchin' there on the plains of Simpleville

For summer we all wear cargo shorts and Birkenstock's here in WA. We eat Granola in the morning, a tofurkey salad for lunch, and a veggie burger for dinner (on gluten/wheat free buns).

We all tend to vote (and smoke) for Green Party.

The only reason we play Ovations is to save a tree.

And now they're working on outlawing bonfires on the beach in WA.

Hey, check out the shirt I'm wearing to the jam...

I STOLE the image from an ad on Jerome's site, and rearranged it to make a tshirt. For my own use of course, since I don't have any rights or permission to sell it. Pob'ly my Friday shirt, since it's nudeskies on Saturday.

At zazzle.com they had a $4 off sale that ends today. You upload an image, design and buy the shirt.

Weather forecast for next weekend is 91 on Friday and Saturday with no rain (hasn't rained much in a few weeks).

We will setup under the deck and/or the tent (awning) that TRboy will be bringing. If it gets too hot there are plenty of places to cool off inside. I have cooked and eaten outside each night this week and it has been very pleasant.

Should be a great weekend!!!!!

We should roll outta G'ville ~10AM, so I'm guessing sometime ~6PM.

in tow:
1537, 87C, 1/4" cables, 3 mics w/ xlr cables, music stand, tuners, SWMBO, baby g8r, a friend who's hitching a ride w/ us to visit her family nearby, and a bottle of Matusalem. Laissez les bontemps roulez!

Looking forward to it!

Ah....good times....I kinda miss Heather...(and/or Jordan)

I guess you guys found me out, I am bringing a "mickey" guitar to the jam. I just spent 6 hours at Disney, after a 3 hour drive to get here, and am going back tonight. Then two more days of "fun"
I'll probably sleep through the first day of the jam.

Update on arrival time...SWMBO is one of two finalists for a tenured teaching position at the local community college, and she's supposed to meet with the provost Friday morning. So it looks like we'll get a bit later start than originally planned. We should roll into Simpleville ~8. You guys should be warmed up (and well lubricated) by then, I'll have some catching up to do :D

Thanks for reminding me of THAT song Gway! It took me 5 years to get the damn thing out of my head after my last visit to Disney.

A little SSJII Update: the infamous boy from TR and his loverly wife came by this afternoon and set up a large awning in tha backyard. Tha ground leans a little bit (read a lot) but it will provide us with a alot of shade protection. We cracked a cold one or two to properly break it in. Many thanks to tha both of ya!!

Just received word that Crimsonlake and his axe wielding son, Nicky, will be joinin us from the loverly Garden State. They were at the Jam last year and Nicky really put on a great show. Nicky, we will do our best to try and keep up with you this year. We are really glad that y'all are coming!!!

Latest weather report is highs in tha mid-80's with lower, than is seasonal, humidity. It's shaping up to be a great weekend indeed.

Great weather, great friends, questionable musical abilities....what more could ya ask for?! ;) :D

You guys are kill'n me, all this talk about hollow bodies and electrics...I wasn't planning to bring either. Now I want to bring 'em but the VW is only so big! I was think'n just the OFC slothead, both the AD I 12-strings, 2 mikes, cords & stands and two music stands. The Millenium would be sweet though, haven't seen one in the flesh.

Alrighty then... the Millenium and a hollowbody it is. Jas - A swap would be very cool!

Let me know for sure if someone is bringing a 47 - if not, I'll toss it in the van as well. I meant that I will lovingly place it in the van securely packed.

Hey guys. I am not gonna be able to make this weekend. My Dad has been in the hospital. He's home now but requires daily care, and I'm the main caretaker.

I am really going to miss seeing and jamming with everybody. I'll be thinking about you guys this weekend, I know you're going to have a blast. Play a little blues and drink a few brews on my behalf please!

Sorry to hear that Steve. It happens all the time that I'm playing a song and think "Man... how great would that sound with Zilla playing a solo...". One of the highlights of a jam is hearing you play.

Take care of Dad, and the family, and the zombies...

Oh man, I WISH I was on the way! Still at work and chomping hard at the bit. (couldn't resist checking in.)

3 Gits and stands, the Shen Jr, a gig bag, a music stand, and two song books on the living room floor at home waiting to be loaded and I'll be outta town. What...? Clothes and toothbrush..?? Dang! What else am I gonna forget??

Don't know what time I'll be able to sneak out of here and will probably be rolling in a little later tonight but definitely will be there. Can't wait to hit the road!

just off the phone with beggin' and i could hear nicky playing "...reaper" in the background. everyone expected was there 'cept otto who was mere minutes from arrival. i heard someone yell, "TR, you get your clothes on!" and somebody else said somethin' about jas was holding up a sign that read, "my post count" and hiding his shortcomings.
i was wundrin' if otto was bringing the purdy red adamas he recently stole? sounds like they are all havin' a blast and so are the neighbors, literally! wishin' i was there guys...

I called as well: they were in the middle of trying to set up the PA. ;)
Now, picture this: Jim lives at the end of a cul-de-sac in a very nice neighborhood: this should be the loudest party that subdvision has ever had...I asked them if they had a scanner w/ police bands...lol

Have a great time everyone: we wish we were there!

I'm getting ready to go to work. :(

When I get home around 8:30 tonight I expect a few pictures.

Especially "The Ol' Trader" with his mystery guitar and Mickey Mouse Ears on.

Well, once again, I am humbled by the amount of talent and hospitality possessed by OFC members. The Beggin's opened their house to all and really went out of their way to make sure everyone felt at home.
The humbled part was when they allowed me to play with them plugged in, even though my playing could be best described as the sound of a chicken walking on the fret board of a guitar. There are some really good players and singers in this group, and I probably could have been of better use in the audience or fetching beer for the others.
Anyway, I would like to publicly thank Jim and his lovely wife Sandy for letting my family become a part of theirs, Mr. and Mrs. TR for the great T shirts as a memento of the occasion, and all the others that showed up to make this a memorable experience.

Thank you thank you thank you Beggins. Fun as always, and I got to meet some cool new people including Mrs. Trader & Li'l Trader, the TnT family, some new Beggins that I had never met, and my new favorite singer, the amazing Otto. Once Jim creates a gallery in Fan Gatherings, I'll add some pix.

And I hate to brag, but what the heck... I DESTROYED the competition in the songwriting challenge, though that momentous victory did little to lessen the shame from the whoopin' Mrs. Beggin put on me in wii bowling.

Yeah....but your song didn't have the "commercial" appeal like mine did.... :D

It was a fantastic song though....I've got a-feelin' it's gonna be one of Jimbo's most requested songs.....

A HUGE time! Cannot express enough thanks to the Beggins for their gracious and generous (Southern) hospitality, by opening their beautiful home to a bunch of middle-aged men who met on the Internet. Many thanks, too, to TRBoy and his SWMBO for the PA system and custom embroidered shirts. It was great meeting all the other SWMBO's, who all hit it off like old friends. That's not unexpected since it takes a special someone to put up with our GAS, and once you see the "family portrait" you'll see just how much cumulative GAS there was!

It was truly great to see old friends, and it was a privilege as always for this hack to be allowed to play with such a fine group. It was an even greater honor to meet and sing along side Otto, who's voice needs to be on many, many recordings.

As always, to those who weren't - YOU SHOULDA BEEN THERE!

Thanks to everyone that came to Simpleville this weekend. It was a great guitar, family, and fun event. The more that the Southern crew (and a few Northern converts) get together, the more fun and fellowship we have. Thanks to all for helping make this an amazing event.

There were many SWMBOs and future OFC'ers here, and they added to the festivities in so many ways.

We laughed, played, laughed, sang, laughed, ate, told some great stories and more than a few lies. Mrs. g8r ended the event when she quieted the group and told a joke, "What is the sexiest animal on tha farm?"......

We missed those that couldn't make it for many uncontrollable reasons and wished that (like our other get togethers) that y'all were with us.

As the last person was leaving, it was mentioned that we need to do it again in the fall. Mrs. Beggin stepped forward and said "why don't we do it here again?!". A heartfelt statement from someone who had just attended her first OFC Jam. She now knows what "shoulda been there" means, and I doubt that she will miss another event.

I have started a thread for pics in the "Ovation Fan Gatherings" section.

Thanks to all again, it was a BLAST!!

Jim

Luscious doesn't begin to describe it. Dead mint, with Charlie's signature on the label, and for an unbelievable price. THE find of the last couple years. All the volume, tone and playability you'd expect from an early Adamas I. Otto is a very lucky man.

Well....I had a long winded reply typed up, but I'm pretty much repeating what everyone has said already....

I'd just like to say a BIG "Thank You" to everyone at SSJII for making it a success and a VERY enjoyable and FUN weekend! From the "regulars" to the new guys (Tim In Tidewater & family...'Ol Trader & family...and "newest" new guy...OTTO,who is a great singer and I like his taste in music!)

We ALL laughed, joked, sang, chatted, played some good music on some fantastic guitars, ate (to much! :o ;) )great food, relaxed, made new friends, reunited with old ones.....for 3 days of good old time Southern hospitality!!

THANK YOU Mr&Mrs Beggin for hostin' SSJamII....can't wait for III...

.....Sorry we missed Randy,MusicMike, and Steve...maybe next time guys...

{edit}...(I've just read Beggin's post and it's almost echoes everything I just (slowly) typed but I'm postin' it anyways!!! :D )

Nice! Looks like ya'll had a great time! Donna was just as disappointed as I was we couldn't make it. She was excited to see so many SWMBOs at the gathering. She really wants to meet more "OFC wives".

A couple people asked me today about the armrest on my daughter's 1868, so I thought I would post a link & recommendation. Cool idea and it does work! Unfortunately, they don't offer any in Walnut (yet...)

I absentmindedly forgot to offer my sincerest gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. TRboy for all of their help this weekend. They provided a great awning and PA system, embroidered Jam shirts, food and desserts to die for. Most of all, we appreciate there support and friendship. Could NOT have done it without y'all!!

It's late and I've been on the road for about 12 hours - but I wanted to give a really big thanks to Jim and Sandy and their lovely family for hosting the jam this weekend. It couldn't have been better in any way. It was like hanging out with lifelong friends. Thanks again and I can't wait to return the favor.

I'll post more tomorrow after a good night's sleep.

p.s. - Nicky has been in his room playing (and singing) "Wish You Were Here" since we got home. We listened to it about 20 times on the way. He had a GREAT time!

Well, looks like I'm as late to the post as I was to the party! But better late than never, right? And that sure applies to SSJII! Ya shoulda been there!

Everything that has been said already still bears repeating. Over and over and over! The Beggin hospitality is simply unsurpassed by anybody anywhere that I have ever been.

And the new friends I have made this weekend...

Crimson, really loved the Millennium and the 47RI but in no way can they compare to your greatest treasure, that Jamming partner you brought with you. Nicky's a pretty special kid! It was awesome to meet and play with you both.

Tim, I'm not sure if I should thank ya or cuss ya for turning me on to wide necks. :p Now I feel a case of Folklore fever coming on and am worried about it turning into full blown Ute-itis. You're a bad influence man, but I sure enjoyed hanging with you and the family.

Trader! Bonnie, please slap this man and wake him up. "a chicken walking on the fret board" indeed!
Rockin' rooster is more like it! You under rate yourself, sir!

G8R, Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. And for being such an all around great guy to talk guitars and jam and sing with. The honor was all mine, buddy!

Jas, what a trip! I'm really looking forward to singing with you again. Your harmony on Danny's song gave me goosebumps. Waaaay nice!! Oh, and congrats on your most recent songwriting award. "Beggin Jim" is a genuine gem!

TRBoy, what a delight to Jam with a guy that picks so well and has such a refined taste for musical selections. :D Song book is on the way. Thanks for all of the hard work with the sound system. (nobody appreciates that like a microphone player :) ) And a special thanks to Mary for those incredible shirts! I'll be wearing mine with pride.

Jim and Sandy, what can I say? Two very special people. I might be a "Northern convert", I might even be a damn Yankee, but nowhere in the South have I ever felt so welcome and so much at home as I did this weekend in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Your hospitality and hard work putting this event together could not be more appreciated. It was an honor to be invited into your home to receive the blessing of so many new and true friends. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for doing this!! The SSJII was the most fun I've had in a long time. ...Y'all. :)

Can't wait for the next one!

Otto

Jas - that's priceless! You are truly a man of many talents.

A big thanks to the southern gang for welcoming us northerners to the fray. I met Tim and family and Bill (Otto) for the first time and again - it was like seeing old friends. It was great seeing Serge, TR, and Jim and their families and Jas, that wild and crazy guy - it's always a pleasure! After seeing some of the pics and videos, Mrs. Crim (Amy) is sad that she didn't go, but wants to know when we're going to host one. I told her that if there's a factory tour (or even if there isn't!) then we'll be hosting something before or after (or both).

Not much more I can say that hasn't been said - some of the talent is overwhelming - Otto on vocals, TR on whatever he picks up, Trader Jim, despite what he says, plays a mean guitar and Bass, Jas - what can't you do??

Thanks again to Jim and Sandy for opening their doors to us - I'm blessed to know you.

Played it all Saturday night, Randy. The lighting is bad but that's her in this pic.

Definitely luscious. And she was asking about you, too. Next trip stateside we're gonna have to arrange for you to meet her! :)

Jas! Killer job on the video!

I like that lighting. Okay, not for showing the guitar, but it captures the "back porch" atmosphere of Saturday night. Whoever was leading/singing was getting fried by a floodlight so that he could see the chords.

I put Tim's "Right Field" video on my channel, and I'm going to mix some more together for one more.

Looks like the last verse of "Beggin Jim" made it to video. Some of these make me laugh to look at them.

Jas, you really did a great job on the video compilation. Even without that, I won't forget the great time we all had and the great people there. Your song was the highlight of the Jam!

Just hope Bobbo & Dave don't watch it...I won't be able to face them in public again!

Oh, I think knowing you and Jim, they'll appreciate it. It was a hit with the fans! I put the "(?)" in there because you two couldn't decide if it was a song or a comedy routine. :D

whatever it was, it was a lot of fun for me. Always remember that, if you can't WOW them with your skills...make em laugh!

I still get very nervous attempting to play and sing in front of an audience, and the Jams are the only opportunity that I have....the vid is a fine example of trying to distract the crowd from my mistakes. Thanks for putting up with me Tim, I'll keep practicing for the next time. :D

Maybe I should take up comedy,,,try this one on:

(borrowed from Mrs. g8r) "What's the sexiest animal on the farm?"

Great job on the pic/vid Jas!!

It was great. What could be better than sitting outside on a beautiful evening, drinking coffee and eating Mary's strawberry pie and cheesecake, while watching two fine young gentlemen entertain with a pair of Adamas 12's? I wish I were there right now.

Young men need things to ponder (besides young ladies). Perhaps he will write a hit song about his findings one day.

We actually have a general rule about not posting videos if the subjects object. But we're pretty familiar now and we just enjoy making songs together no matter what it sounds like. Obviously, you put several half-blind guys playing songs they don't know off of one book in the dark, you're gonna get some wierd noises.

Lanaki's the only one to opt out, because he's a professional singer, and his voice was shot the day of SSJ1. Not good publicity.

I predict Crimson Lake will post next.

Jas...obviously you have mental powers far above the normal being. Either my browser is not working or did you conjure up moody's quote?

Nicky will do fine tomorrow. The more that he performs now, the less he will look like me in the video later. Break a leg Nicky!

"professional" only cuz i've been paid to sing, not that i'm a great singer. although my voice used to work much better than it does these days. it's almost like goin' through puberty again. i'm waiting for the voice to settle in somewhere...

I couldn't get there to see it - I was stuck at a trade show. :(

He said it went very well. Everyone told him he did great. Sounds like some Bon Jovi is up next - one of his friends plays as well, so it could be duo.

I cleaned and restrung his guitar the night before, so he was ready to go.

Brad - gotta get that Michigan gathering together - there've been gatherings in most other parts of the country. You'd probably have a good contingent from Canada as well. I know I'd make every attempt to get there. It's pretty much the same distance as South Carolina was.

If not - I'll see ya at the tour in October (Sorry Al!).
