Location: Parrish, FL | I came across this guitar today and went to see it. The pics were poor, the description lacking the model number, and the person I talked to not very knowledgeable. I wasn't going to take the chance of letting a 1538 get away without looking, especially since it was on my way home from work.
Anyway, what I found was indeed a 1768 Elite in nice shape, slight wear on the epaulettes on the lower bout, 3 finish cracks on the top, not into the wood, walnut fretboard, and light fret wear. I had a nice chat with the original owner and his wife, gave a little info about what I knew about the guitar and politely passed on the purchase.
They asked me what I thought it was worth (they were asking $950 w/ case) and I commented that they were priced a little high, but that I would consult with the Forum to get an estimate of value so they could fairly price the instrument.
So that's the story, anyone care to provide an estimate? I'm guessing about $450-$500.
