Location: Ohio | I have a Celeb Dlx with the string height a bit too high at the 1st 2 frets.
No shims in the bridge.
Does anyone know whether the nut is glued or just pressed in. I'd rather take a bit off the bottmof the nut than files the slots deeper.. Or am I going about this the wrong way? |

Location: south east Michigan | I think you mean "bridge" rather than "nut".
I kept shaving the bridge of my old Balladeer down as far as I could until I finally (after 37 years), I had to send it in for a neck reset. It did not have a bridge pick-up so that made it easier.

I don't think you can reset the neck on a Celebrity.
The neck is glued to the body in a very permanent type of way.

If you are thinking of taking a file to the nut, I don't think that would be a good idea.

Location: Tennessee | Probably a couple of drops of glue. You should be able to knock the nut loose. Usually most people have a new nut cut ... pretty simple and straightforward and your local guitar tech should be able to make it right.

When you mentioned "no shim left", I figured you were talking about the bridge.

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | It could require both. Unless you intend to get into the set-up business, the cost of one-time nut files is likely prohibitive. Hire it out. |

Location: Sydney, Australia | Before you do that, check that the truss rod is adjusted correctly. A little tweak on my 1680 made a big difference to the playability. |

Location: Cork, Ireland | Filing the back of the nut worked for my Applause and my Pacemaker. Just make sure you get it flat and square. Buy a spare nut matching nut in case you screw up. Works if the nut is a uniform thickness all the way up but not if it tapers!
