| I've been reading the forum archives, while learning about models.
Before tonight, I thought the model numbers/letters were set in stone. Then I read a thread that made it seem like the LX treatment was available as an upgrade. Which guitars had the LX "upgrade" available and would be worth keeping an eye out for ? ( Still looking for a 12 string, but general knowledge is a good thing too. )
Specifically, I was trying to find info on the 6751 Balladeer, and stumbled onto mentions of a 6751LX.

An example would be the 6778LX.
You can look on evilBay and find older 6778's with a K-bar and newer 6778LX's.
I am not sure about getting an "upgrade"...
Someone could send an older O back to the factory for a re-Top and re-Bowl and get the lighter GS Bowl and Scalloped X bracing... But I don't think that would be an LX upgrade.
I think that the real thing about the LX is the LX neck joint with the graphite struts.
That was all done with a computer-laser-CNC-doohickie 
But many older models became LX.
1778LX, 1771LX, 1777LX, 1861LX etc, etc...

| Maybe "upgrade" was a poor choice of terms. What I meant was there seemed to first be the standard model and then a LX version was released. Sort of an upgraded model over the original.
Does the sticker SAY "LX" on it, or do you just have to know what to look for to figure out it's the LX version ?
What I saw mentioned in these forums, but not on the Ovation web site was a 6751LX ... What's their story ?

Even when they were manufacturing them, not all models were on the site.

Location: Phoenix AZ | "Treatment" or "Upgrade" was marketing spew ... LX was just new models similar to the old ones so they kept the number and just added LX to it. Structurally, the LX models are miles different than the non LX versions. |

Yes and No. You really need to get to the next gathering in your area to try some guitars out.
I say yes and no because while the LX versions have the same "signature" tone as their non-LX counterpart, something that is admittedly not easy to put your finger/ear on and describe, it's kinda hard not to sound "different" once you've changed the neck, the neck joint, the bracing, and the bowl.
It's easier for me to describe in terms of electrics.. If you take a strat, and replace the pickups with same style but different brand, and change the tuners and bridge. It likely will still play, feel and sound like a strat... but it won't sound, feel and play the same as it did before. |

ANS - Alternative Neck System, double action Truss rod, CNC Neck Pocket, Bolt on Neck, new Fret slot method, new Neck Radius method.
GLS Bowl - Glass Lyrachord Spheres, aka, little bubbles mixed with the Fibres and Poly Cosmic injection material in the bowls.
Inlaid Epaulets - My favorite part!
CNC Bridge Location - Done after the neck is attached this puts the Bridge in the right place and right height.

| My problem is the more I learn, the more I desire a higher end guitar, which goes right past my set budget. A month ago, I just wanted a decent sounding 12 string, just because I always have thought they were cool. I've already got my 1617-4 Legend, so I don't need a new 6 string. I figured with all the buyer remorse with 12s that they could be had for a relatively low price on the used market. Now, I know enough to be dangerous, as far as my budget goes. Since the web is so wide spread, it's hard to find the killer deal because it's too easy for even pawn shops to look up how much any instrument is worth.
How do I find any Ovation gatherings in my area ? ( Southern California )
