My UKII has developed a case of the "pings". You know, when you go to tune it, and right before you hit the perfect pitch, you hear the "ping" and it takes you beyond?
It'a a brass nut, that's why I'm saying it may just be for the UKII folks out there.
It's probably the nut, right? It stays there, even after a string change. I think it's the D or G string |

Location: Scotland | The nut slot has worn out, not uncommon with brass, it's a relatively soft metal. Short-term fixes - get some graphite from an HB pencil, grind it into a powder and put it into the slot, you'll need to repeat this every time you change strings. A better bet is graphite-based firearm lubricant paste or buy some BigBends Nut Sauce which is the same kinda stuff for guitars but a lot more expensive.
Medium term fix - shim the nut up just a hair and re-cut the slots.
The real fix. Ditch the brass and have a bone nut installed |

Location: Jet City | I use Dean Markley Custom Lights on pretty much all the electrics. I doubt it's the string's fault.
A drop of graphite? Would they have that at a music store?
I'll try the string thing Capo Guy. If there seems to be a rough edge, I'll end up bringing it to a local shop. What will they do, take a file to my UKII? :eek: |

Apart from being cheap, available and easy to work, brass has absolutely no advantage over traditional materials like bone or good synthetic bone substitutes like Corian, Micarta or Tusq. There are good reasons why hardly anyone uses brass nuts anymore. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | As to Graphite... You can get some relatively cheap graphite at Home Desperate (or some such hardware store) for lubricating Locks. It'll come in spray, but they should have some liquid sh... uh, stuff ['scuse me].
Or get the spray, and spray it in the cap that came with the can. One purchase oughta last you a lifetime. |

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Quite a while ago I was given a nozzle-tipped small tube of graphic that was in some type of 'suspension'. It was used for locks during wintertime up 'yonder'. Maybe that would help you. |
