I came across this legend on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190700740347?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&autorefresh=true#ht_500wt_1413

and noticed that the serial was outside the alpha numerical range referenced on this site.

I looked around and found a couple of early Legends:

Two were in the F's and one was oddly a 4 digit #.

The warranty card also appears to have been altered, which may not mean a thing...I was just curious as to if anyone had any thoughts about the serial # in the M's.

For what it's worth, Jay, my (1974) 1117 Legend has a sticker with this on it: "Ovation 044977". I am not sure if this is "alpha numerical" (looks like it's purely numerical).

Jay, it's probably from a transition period, 1969-1970. The inlays on the neck were only done like this for about a year. I would also guess that it has a replacement bridge on it from a few years later. This happened a lot in the early guitars. Lastly, there were some serial numbers used that started with a letter, that aren't mentioned in list of serial numbers. They pop up every once in a while......
