Location: Utah | The past few weeks, the sound from my 6778 Elite LX has really improved. It is fuller and quite a bit louder. I was told to turn it down at rehearsal, and I wasn't even plugged in!
It's a used guitar that I've had for six months and played regularly. The previous owner gigged with it some, but how much is unknown.
So, is this the top opening up, or just my springtime hormones making everything seem sweeter? |

Location: Utah | No, old strings. EJ16's with about a month of good playing on them. Going to be changed out this morning for some Martin SPs for tomorrow's big performance of "This Man". Also should change out the battery in the preamp before I forget. |

Location: Eaton, Indiana | A top does open up after a period of playing. I have seen scientific info about what happens but it all gave me a headache. We also become atuned to a new or different guitar and begin to hear its special voice. Just play and enjoy.

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | The top does open up with playing. As proof, when I got my Bean Blossom guitar, I liked it so much I ordered another one for the house. (I got the last one--they stopped making them after Martin sued.) Anyway, the new one didn't sound quite as good as the first one. I kept the new one here at the shop, took the old one to the house. Well, I spend about 10 to 12 hours a day here, and the new guitar got a lot more playing time. Then one night after playing a gig, I took the shop guitar home. Now IT sounded better than the other one. (So now I switch them out about once a month.)
As a matter of fact, I know several shop owners who put stereo speakers in front of their new guitars to get those tops vibrating. (I don't need to do that here. We have so many jam sessions down here, EVERYTHING vibrates.)
They say that if you took two identical new guitars, put one in the case for two years and played the heck out of the other one, not only would the played guitar now sound better, but the other one wouldn't ever catch up, because after two years of not being played, the wood stiffens up and will never "open up" fully. |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Around here , two ( 2 ) yrs. is considered needed to start -up things , however , to reach " full potential " will take up to ten ( 10 ) yrs. and yes , using it would be a Good Idea :)
