For example, what if I had typed "OT What is OT" in the subject?

Thanks,

I have always felt rather than starting the topic with "OT"... just navigate to a site where what was about to be posted was ON TOPIC. I know I have used the OT thing too, but really... if it's "off-topic" than we're already kindof admitting it doesn't belong here.
On a brand specific motorcycle board I belong to, they don't allow "OFF TOPIC" but they do allow discussion of other brands... as long as it's still motorcycle related. Rather than OT, they put NGC - which stands for No Guzzi Content.
Maybe we should start NOC.. It might still be Music related, and guitar related, just Not Ovation Related... |

If you start a post somewhere, where it will be "on topic", let me know where you moved it, so I can post there. But wait a minute. If I posted there about being "off topic" would it be "on topic" or "off topic?" |

Location: Simpsonville, SC | Many people here, my self included, have developed friendships because of the "loose knit" nature of the OFC. It gives us the chance to pick at each other and have a flowing conversation that distance prohibits in person, as well as "meet" people that we would never have the good fortune to meet.
I feel that a certain amount of "OT" evolves from these relationships, and because of that, makes the OFC stand out like no other internet site that I regularly go to (guitar related or not).
We all can read the topic and choose to ignore it if we so desire, and I do that often. But, I do enjoy some of the "OT" posts. Do "OT" posts take away from the mission of this site? Only the moderators can decide that, after all, it is their vision and direction that makes this site what it is now and what it will become in the future.
I can't answer what the future will bring to the "OFC", but I like it fine just the way it is.
Just my 2 cents...and we all know that 2 cents ain't worth what it used to be. |

Now let's discuss those threads that are OT and not labeled as such... |

Geez, that was quick. I'll congratulate you at 1k.
That should take you about.... a month?
Back on topic of off topic, I think this site wouldn't have anywhere near the traffic it receives and maintain the large number of regular contributors if the moderators didn't allow the OT stuff to flow. So a hearty thanks to Miles and Al. And if you go TOO far off topic, they'll pounce like predatory felines and shut you down.
Many of us foreign members here will never get to meet any of the American members and the OT banter gives us an insight into the various personalities.
Long may it continue. |

Who would you pick on if I weren't here? |

I think we are given a pretty long leash as it is. |

Now let's discuss those threads that are OT and not labeled as such... For this particular post to be on topic, those two little guys would have to be swinging guitars at each other instead of epees.
First time ever I've had a chance to say "epee". |

| I think this place is amazing in the way it self censors. I don't know if al and miles understand how much goes on off-board virtually every day of the year. If that stuff came to the board the feds would shut the place down in 10 minutes.
This place is unique and moderates itself (excepting the odd nazi conspiracy theory freaks) in a remarkable way.
I think everybody knows pretty much where the line in the sand is drawn. |
