If I buy an amp for acoustic, nothing huge, just 30, 40, 50 watt or thereabouts, for playing/recording at home, and the odd small gig for a few people, how important is "direct out"?
As far as I understand(which isn't too far!), that allows you to put it in the pub's p.a, right? so my question is, why would I want to do that? I mean, if the pub has a p.a, which most do here, I'll just plug straight in there with my guitar and mic, so the amp wouldn't even figure in the picture would it.?
I'm not very experienced with amps and stuff...
By the way my friend has lent me a Roland Street Cube for a few days, it's a bit bollocks but fun. I'll try and put a vid up soon so y'all can hear my 1868

Personal amps are often used for the benefit of the performer because you can't always hear the main house speakers. I prefer to use the XLR outputs on my amps (or an outboard DI box between my pedals and my amp) to power the house board because it allows me to control my tone. The house sound engineer will still control the volume to the house mains, but won't be able to mess with my tone. If you are running flat or with only the guitar's on-board EQ, then it may not make any difference by going direct to the board, but you'll likely still want a monitor so you can hear yourself.

That's how all my gigs are
Cheers Prof....I think... so what you're saying is, use the amp as a monitor, but obviously you can control your own sound, and you still have the house speakers too. Sounds like a decent idea.
Ok, if I get an acoustic amp, make sure it has the direct line out option, then it's best of both worlds!
