I just got my 4th US Elite within the last week or so and its very close in serial number to one of the same model that I already had. How close? How's 5 apart? They are XXXX80 and XXXX86 with all other numbers being the same. I thought that was pretty cool. The funny thing is right out of the box, the new one is not nearly as playable as the other one. It has some annoying string buzz and is just a little tougher to fret cleanly. I started looking for the culprit and found it right away. Someone removed a shim from under the saddle. It only lowered the strings 3/100th of and inch, but that reeked havoc on the setup. This just goes to show that lower is not always better/more playable.

On a related note, Does anyone have any spare shims that they wouldn't mind sending me? I used to, but I gave them to a friend in need a year or so ago.

which shims you need depends on which pickup assy is in there. The newer models don't have pins that go though, so the shims are longer.

Credit card is too thick. I thought of putting a layer or two of tape on the existing shims, but I didn't know if it would affect the tone. Plus it wouldn't be original.

customer service could probably do something for you. Ask for John or Kim.
