We are close now to finishing studio work (stalled by illness). Does anyone have advice on a company to use for producing the cover and physical CD? I have some art ideas as well as ideas on the "text". I'd like to do a cardboard format (not jewel case) that opens up..... Cost, quality -- they all matter. I am thinking of a small run for starters, maybe 1000.

(by the way: where are all the bells and whistles for reply?)

Thanks Bob. I found great lessons on your link, but no promotionals about CD production. Is there another site?

Www.diskmakers.com. They are the oldest and best in my opinion. They are totally focused on indie releases now. They have packages for everyone in every price range.

diskmakers is who I used, and was very happy with the results. They were a little spendy, but that was a few years ago.
HelloMusic does offer a good deal, but it's for replication and sleeves rather than creating a master disk.

Pardon my ignorance: what is a master disk? Is it the same as what we are mixing/mastering in the studio?

I started to write an explanation of the "Glass Master", but these guys have already done it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc_manufacturing

http://www.wizbit.net/cd-dvd_production_faqs_what_is_a_glass_master.htm

http://www.cdmaker.com/replication

Understand the difference between the industry lingo of  "replication" versus "duplication"  or "replicator" versus "duplicator"

http://www.datadisc.com/customer_support/technical_tips/cd_replication_versus_cd_duplication.php

http://www.speakerfulfillmentservices.com/replicatevs.duplicate.pdf

Since you mentioned you're only planning to have 1,000 discs made you'll probably get the best price doing duplication, which won't involve a Glass Master.

Hope that helps.

BTW - excellent music!

Wow. Now I get it. As for the number of CDs.... who knows? It depends on whether we sell any or not. I'd feel stupid with 15000 CDs in my basement!

You are still scheduled to compose the liner notes, Alan. I can't wait to wrap up the last two tunes.

Very, very much looking forward to it, Greg! When it comes out, I'll be pointing my friends to it too. I hope that generates some good sales!

Fantastic, Alan. In the meantime do go online and get some bogus degrees so we cans feature your signature as "Rev. Alan Miner, PhD musicology Harfard University, MA anthropology Queenston U." etc. But seriously, It will be delightful to have your prose adorn the sleeve!

Lol! I'll see if I can scare up some bogus ones...have to be some of those lying around online. In the meantime, no point in actually getting one...I'll just award myself one right now, in recognition of the fact that I OUGHT to have one anyway, after all!
