Location: Austin, Texas | I received a new Ovation a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to find some info on it. I know it is a CS257 but that's pretty much it. I would like to know wood composition/possible dating/anything related to this guitar would be awesome.
So far I know the top is Korean, probably laminate maple, the bowl US made, OP24+, 24k gold plated tuners, diamonds and dot fretboard, made anywhere between '97-'03 (I think my research has brought me sometime before '99). I read somewhere that the headstock is laid with walnut, bridge and fingerboard possibly rosewood. I have found things that I think might be right but I would like some confirmation on my findings. I am also having a hard time trying to find out what kind of finish I have. It is a very nice green but has a subtle sunburst that, instead of being black, its blue around the edges.
Any and all info would be much appreciated! Here's a link of the guitar - http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p558/Gsalazar26/DayIgotJewelMar...
and the logo -

P.S. It probably wouldn't help seeing as its an offshore Ovation, but the serial # is 9016909 and my label is blue and green in color
Thanks in advance.

Besides, I think Bleen was a custom Adamas color. |

Location: sitting at my computer | excerpt from NEW NEWS - by George Carlin (1975) "The Nobel Prize in Mathematics has been awarded to a California professor who has discovered a new number. The number is "bleen" which he claims belongs between six and seven." soooo if bleen is a number, then maybe that color is... grue? (insert tongue-in-cheek smiley here) Kidding aside, check out this Pinnacle: |

Anyways, thanks for the help guys! That pinnacle is EXACTLY what I have!
Stonebobbo, I'm not entirely sure if it is Cadillac Green, any possible way of maybe showing an example of the Cadillac Green? Hard to tell from the Ovation color samples that SOBeach provided. I can provide some other pictures of the guitar, I have the neck off right now though (reason I received it for free, I gotta reglue the neck back on)
Many thanks! |

Location: sitting at my computer | hey George, saw this Applause on ebay listed as Cadillac Green Burst
couldn't get the pic to display, so here's the listing...
Looks kinda similar, but is it blue-green... or bleen-grue enough? |

Location: Austin, Texas | That applause does look kinda similar, the green is spot on, but it has that black sunburst instead of blue. Mine is distinctly blue to green, not black to green. I'm so confused!
Could this finish possibly be a special order??? I have only been able to find this on a Pinnacle like the one above, but never on a Celebrity model. Could my Ovation be rare? Did someone screw up an order and paint a Celebrity like a Pinnacle??
This has been eatin me up for awhile... not knowing and everything... |

Location: sitting at my computer | yeah, didn't think it was an exact match either. Don't know if finish colors were so tightly controlled that variations wouldn't occur. And as you asked, maybe it was special ordered. Either way, if it were mine I'd think of it as a fortunate occurrence rather than a "screw up". I'm always window shopping (poor man's G.A.S.) and have only seen a few with this color. The blue ones always catch my attention too! LOL Like the songs says... "Don't worry, be happy"!!!

Location: Tennessee | It might be the finish, not the color. I know a few people who have older Ovations, and the "black" has turned into a "blue" tint because of the effects of time on the finish they used back in the 80's. Blue on tobacco sunburst seems weird, but I've seen it! Most of the time, on necks.
I still think this is Cadillac Greenburst. |

fortunate occurrence is what I'll refer to it from now on! I think I might just go what I'm really wishing for, special order! Doesn't matter if that makes it worth more, cuz this baby is never leaving my sight! I can't wait to get that neck on and play it already! I've heard great things from it. So far I got the old glue off and sanded and cleaned out, neck fits good on my dry test, just gotta actually glue it now!
Anyone have any suggestions on what type of glue/adhesive to use? Would Titebond be ok? I'm worried it won't adhere to the bowl correctly
Stonebobbo:
That would explain a lot! The guitar is 20 years young, so unless it was in bad conditions, I didn't think the paint could be affected in such a short amount of time. The only question I still have is, if the finish has faded over time, then why is the Pinnacle blue/green just like mine? That doesn't look like a fade to me! If mine really is a Cadillac Greenburst and it did fade, then I still consider that a pretty cool affect and makes me believe I got a special Ovation!
