Location: Australia | I've got a Glen Campbell reissue and I hate where the neck end strap button is and I want to move it closer to the neck heel.
I was wondering if anyone has ever moved a strap button like this? |

First off, Ovation strap buttons are held-in with a "mollie" thingy.
I don't know where you would find one in Oz, but you will need to hook-up something inside the bowl.
A bolt & nut, or a screw and a small block of wood.
Also a "mollie" for screwing into Drywall (gypsum board, sheet-rock) will work.
As far as drilling into the bowl... It is some kind of fiberglass so you must be careful that the bit doesn't "grab" and tear, or otherwise go nuts on you.
Start with a small bit and get progressively larger...
Once you are up to 1/8" (3mm) you might want to drill in Reverse to prevent the bit from grabbing, binding, whatever.
When you say "Glen Campbell Reissue" I am not sure what this model looks like.
If it is a Non-cutaway, you would probably want the button on the Treble-side of the neck.
If it is a cutaway, I don't know where you would put the button.
Now that I have answered this and given it a "bump" maybe someone will come along with the correct answer.

Location: Upper Left USA | OMA is dead on. I have used Molly fasteners as well as epoxy and a wood block (for woodscrews). If you use a machine screw add an oversized washer to spread the stress. My favorites are the Straplok recessed units that need to go into the solid parts.

Location: Australia | It's one of the 2006 Glen Campbell Reissue 6 strings (non cutaway with the strap button on the treble side). A great little guitar but I hate how far away the strap button is from the heel. The guitar wants to roll forward all the time.
I'm sure I can manage that mod. Cheers |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | To do a good job with the 'molly' you need the 'gun' to squeeze them up properly. It is possible to just use a screwdriver to turn the screw to 'crush' them, but that's a shitty way to do it and I wouldn't be doing that on a GC reissue.
And make sure you use the correct one. There are all different sizes dependent on the thickness of the material you're fastening to. You'd really have to know pretty accurately how thick the shell is where you want to mount it so you can select the right size 'molly'.
Personally, I'd go the nut and large washer route.
You've been laying low Richard. Good to see you hanging around again. |
