The restauration of OMA's "beater" 1114 is coming along nicely. This thing is LOUD!
The stringposts have a black nylon/plastic cover or sleeve that seems more suited to a Classical guit with gut strings. They make the posts much thicker than they need to be and affect the tuner ratio big time.
Can the plastic be removed to access the brass post underneath?
If so, how? (these tuners appear to be hard to come by, so I want to be careful)

someone has changed the tuners out for a set of Schaller classical's. They drop right in. Lost Art vintage usually has them for sale at reasonable price. Allparts has them too but you'd think they were made of gold when you see what they cost.
Your classical tuners will sell online pretty fast to help recover some of the expense. I had a folklore that someone had put nylon strings on and looked into changing it back too.
