I was able to “rescue” a K1111 RI around the first of the year. The guitar had been owned by a lefty that had turned its' world upside down. In doing so, it appeared he took a rasp to the saddle and nut to make room for the new string order.  Additionally, he had epoxied a no slip pad on the bottom of the bowl (typically the top) using a trowel to spread on the epoxy. Being from San Antonio, it appeared that when he played the guitar, he must have had the biggest RCA bull riding championship belt buckle on, because the back of the bowl had a record of each time the guitar was played. He prepped the guitar for sale by removing the no slip pad by using a brillo pad, as it appears that the epoxy had melted the bowl.  The soundboard had some clear residue on it, which Ovation thought were splotches of glue (?), along with a couple of dings and a fair share pick marks.  None of the guitars “experience” was conveyed to me, but the guy didn’t want much, so I ran the guitar serial and it came up clean and I bought it.

                When I got it, I was thrilled to finally have a K1111RI, but disappointed in the abuse the guitar had seen.

                Had I not become part of this community, I would have NEVER known to contact the good folks at Ovation. I called Kim, explained what I had and he said send it in. Two months later, I had to check the serial to make sure they hadn’t sent back a different guitar. Honestly, the bowl looks brand new and the soundboard is pristine. They made the action perfect after replacing the nut and saddle. 

    I am astounded at the level of craftsmanship that had to go into making my abused 40th look like new. My sincere appreciatiton goes to all the great folks at Ovation. To experience something like this makes one very proud to be part of the Ovation family.
