Hi all,
I just happened on to a beautiful CB Millennium (to keep my Folklore company) and have a question. I understand that this guitar was limited to 75 units. When I look in the gallery at the registered Millenniums I notice that earliest and latest serial numbers are almost 4,000 apart. Iā€™m guessing that the run of 75 was manufactured in one batch, correct? If so, are the serial numbers stamped on the guitar as the orders come in ā€“ accounting for the wide spread of numbers?
Also, if only 75, why not consider this a limited edition and have certificates (or stamp info on the label) showing #1 of 75, #2 of 75, etc.? Or why not stamp the serial numbers consecutively 1-75?
I ask because I have a Gretsch Knotty Pine Roundup reissue (also 75 made), that is the same situation ā€“ numbers all over the map.
With the situation as it is, is there any way to verify that only 75 were made? Is there a source to de-code which of 75 any given guitar might be?
Thanks,
Bob

If you figure that a Millennium is just a W597 Adamas with a nifty neck...
I am guessing that when they made them, they grabbed a body and added the neck.
Here are some serial numbers at the Ovation Gallery
(scroll down to where it lists "Adamas Q, SMT, CVT & ME (smooth tops)")
Maybe when they made the 75 they didn't know that they were only gonna make 75?
They only know that there are 75 in Hindsight

On a sorta related subject, I have a Sweetwater T.
It is just an Elite 2078T with a Koa epaulet that was custom ordered by Sweetwater Music.
They were available in 2008, a few (or a bunch) of them were bought by OFC Members.
When we compared serial numbers they were all over the place.

Bob, unless you can find the guy that has #75, only Ovation would know and that might be a little iffy.

I asked a very reputable source at Ovation how many of the K1111 RI were produced. He replied "around xx" (I don't have the email in front of me). I want to say 43ish.

The intent was a limited 50 run. I assume that the lack of demand was the reason they didn't finish the run.

The fewer the better, right? That is, unless nobody really wants one, then you just have a mondo cool factor of having a guitar model numbered to a limited production.

Arthur, there had to be more planning... the abalone was not standard on W597 tops.

I'm curious if the idea for the Adamas Millennium model was spun off of the Ovation 20th Century Memorial model or vice versa?

http://www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/2000_Century_Jp_Catalog/2000_Century_Jp_Catalog.html

How many of those were made??

There is also abalone on an MEII W597....

I didn't mean to belittle the Millennium, cuz I have always wanted one.
But they probably made them while they were making others.
Even watching the OFC Factory Tour video they said that they made all kinds of models at the same time.
That would explain the Serial Number spread.

If they were just making 75 of them, wouldn't the serial numbers be like Collectors' Editions?
Y'know, Like 01/75 (for example)
My GCXT sez 117/200 on the back along with a six-digit serial number.

Maybe there just wasn't the demand that they expected.

The Ute and several other limited or special editions didn't have consecutive serial numbers.

I guess they simply chose not to designate special S/N's and that's that. How many were actually produced is a good question. I've heard 75 too but does anyone know for certain?

OMA - an OFC member referenced 1 or 2 for sale at a store in....Alaska. Brand new but the price might scare you off at $2400! Saw a somewhat worn one sell on ebay a few months back for about $1100.

These guitars have a nice, balanced sound plugged in or not. Plenty of volume with that Adamas clarity.

Remember, they also have historical value now that Pluto isn't a Planet!
