Is anyone looking to sell an 83 or a 96 CS in good shape? It's tough to find a nice 83 and I don't see many 96's for sale.
Best,

Location: Right now? | I have a feeling that the guy who posted this was probably trying to hunt out what he could expect one to sell for. There was a 1996 on Ebay about a week before that was posted at a very high starting bid. I don't think it sold, and not long afterwards that post came up. My '96 C is really a great guitar. I am very surprised that not much is available on them. Mine is one of the nicest guitars I have as far as looks and better yet, playability and sound. It's awesome, and certainly worth a decent price, but still, considering this economy and what guitars are being sold for, his expectations were a bit much. I posted one of my 1537's a while ago that I thought would sell fast, and while it had lots of 'lookers', it did not sell. I can't say I was sorry though. I was relieved, because it is undoubtedly one of my best. |

PS, what's with the threads not automatically showing up? I'm having to click individual posts under a thread since the new look? |

I played 96C about two years and can confirm - she is great.
Currently 96C is offered on ebay ($1500) and two more (WA and MA, $700 each, more than adequate) @ Guitar Center

Good luck!

Location: Right now? | Wow, I think that $700 dollars is a STEAL for that guitar, but as things go today (economically speaking), I'm not all that surprised. MatureWolf, I find myself happy that you agree; I was thinking for a while that maybe it was that I had gotten a particularly 'good' one, because you do not find much info on them. Kurt Koenig tricked his out with new tuners and such. It looks great, and I bet it sounds FAB. I know he sold a few things, so I do not know if he still owns it (Kurt, if you read this, please post a good shot of yours).
I have yet to see a photo (except for Kurt's) that even begins to do that guitar justice. It is really VERY beautiful to see 'in person'. Photos usually make it look red or crappy purple. It is a rich, deep, almost-black finish that actually sort of looks velvety somehow, and the MOP inlay is gorgeous!

Location: New Jersey | Zack, the one in Boston was one of the three I was looking at before I bought myCollector's. Cherry color, $699.00 right? The sales guy there said that there was an issue with the pre-amp and that they were deciding whether to replace it on their dime or sell it at a reduced price. The price did not go down, so I'm assuming they fixed it. Just remember you have 30 days. Hope it works out-she was a beauty! |

It was one of my first "higher class" O's and is still one of my favorites! I didn't like the gold hardware to the silverish/black look of the guitar, so I installed chrome tuners and knobs and had the neck glossed. Kinda looks like a dark CL, but with MoP instead of Abalone, which makes it different. Funny, it is the guitar that impresses my Ovation friends the less, but is the go to guitar for my wood box friends. And the pics for Willa, best regards, Kurt |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | These are super nice instruments. I've been talked out of two so far. (Helloooo Willa! As I recall, Iffy got my first one several years back. ) (GAS can be stupid.) And I still find myself looking for one occasionally.
Kurt, I love that glossed neck! I did the same with my Book Elite and my Bubinga Elite. My Book Mando already had its neck glossed when I bought it.
Hope you find one Zack. Best of luck!

Location: Right now? | I love the glossed neck on my black 1537, too. Feels NICE. Plays silky smooth. Looks gorgeous. Oh, that word is so used up. And again, just look at that gorgeous 1996 so well represented in Kurt's photos. ;p Willa

If you ever hear of a 1537 for sale let me know. I bid on the one on the bay last week but stopped at $1500 -- it sold for just over that. Guess I didn't want it bad enough?? But the concept is intriguing -- Adamas quality but WT sound. I have never played one but would love to someday. Anyway keep me posted if you hear of one. Thanks. nerdy dave |

There are a couple up here for you to try out if you ever get up this way. There has to be some 1537s in the Salt Lake area, too. |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA | Mike from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada here. I haven't been here at the forum for a while, so here is an update on the elusive 1983 Collectors Series Ovation for sale in my home town. I went back home on the last weekend in August 2012 for my aunt's 75th birthday. I phoned the lady who wants to sell this guitar.(Yes, I had another GAS attack! I AM GUITARDED!) She is NOT moving from her price($700.00 CDN), and I offered her $500.00 CDN. It was the best I could do. So, if any of you Ovation Fans are adventurous enough to cross the border for this particular piece.....?, you can e-mail me for more info here: mikegtr@sympatico.ca. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of the guitar to post, and the lady in question seems to be, oh shall we be polite, (being in mixed company), and say "STUBORN!" She told me in person when I first tried out the guitar, a year ago, that she would like me to buy it, etc, etc., but, now I'm not so sure she wants to sell at all. Just thinkin' out loud. How do Ovation Fan Club Members view this situation?

Location: Boise, Idaho | I probably told you my view a long time ago. I bought one for $375 about 5 years ago, when it was more of a seller's market. They are the least "elusive" of the collectors, since they made more 83s than any other collector. It was the first supershallow bowl and sounded just like my SSB Custom Balladeer that I sold to Numbfingers. The only reason I paid as much as I did (besides the GAS attack) was that I had an 87 for my daughter born in 87, but didn't want to give my daughter born in 83 my 83 1537. Having their birth year on the necks of the guitars I gave them is cooler anyway. I'll stop thinking out loud now. |
