i have always enjoyed the doors music but i think that most of the time anyone who listened to the music or really got into the band were mostly stoned at the time. i still enjoy them now but i must admit they would not of appealed to me back in the sixties if i were not high . i say that because you never hear their music on radio play unless it is light my fire or people are strange , i never hear any other songs by them.
looking at this clip it seems that everyone one is stoned in it , the band and everyone in the audience and backstage . i gotta say i think that the doors were a great blue collar band. .GWB

doors were a fantastic band, especially fond of them since they were an LA band. Wonder if they don't play as much outside of southern california though? On the radio here, we get to hear all their hits ('break on through, the end, light my fire, 21st century fox, love her madly, hello i love you, la woman, riders on the storm....). They were a unique band with eclectic tastes. They wrote so many different kinds of songs that most people had to like at least one of their tunes.

My take on them is that what made them was the keyboard player and a lead singer with bags of personality. They had some great songs. My favorite song of theirs is Riders on the storm. I think I saw Morrison's grave in Paris?

It's sort of like a trio. I found it interesting that Manzarek played keys with his right hand and a bass keyboard with his left. Reminds of me of that scene from El Marachi with the keyboard player playing everything, bass, drums, guitar, horns etc ... I have to admit ... keyboard players have the nicest toys.

trio instrumentally
I always liked trios it takes some good musicians and some thinking you have to know when to fill up the air space and when to let it just hang out there

I like the doors music. Some say (ok me) that a sign of a great tune is one that transcends the artists or arrangements and I think the doors may have been more genius than given credit. I can't think of another rock band that's been covered in so many genre's except maybe for the Beatles and I think their pallet of styles may have been deeper. Even the few Doors tunes that have been used for Musak still stand up and are quite nice. In a couple of cases I like the cover more than the original and think that's just a sign of a great tune. One that someone else can make their own, and it's still a great tune.

Never got into that genre or their sound. Bt what do I know?
You're not alone. I never got 'em either. There's 5 or 6 songs that I can groove to, but some stuff is beyond me. I want to like 'em so I can be in the cool crowd, but I guess I'm just not cool enough.
'Touch Me' is on my top least favorite songs of all time. I think the song would have suited Tom Jones much better.

I never took much notice of them. I've long since moved on from the stuff that I thought was good back then. Always, kinda amazes me when I go to someone's house and they're still listening to the same old same old from their distant past - it's like they stayed stuck in one era.

Yep... That's kinda what I was trying to say about them.. As example, I thought The Lettermen version of Light My Fire at the time, and contectually is/was actually better than the Doors, although I like the doors version too, I think it's a better Lettermen tune.

mile's you run a guitar website and you like a song that has nothing but vocals and big band back-up , i find that very strange , the guitar and organ solo on this song is one of the best in the top 100 songs in the history of rock & roll .
i guess i can appreiciate every ones input on it . GWB.

Just watched the documentary "Classic Albums: The Doors." I was pretty young at the time and wasn't aware of just how creative, expressive, talented, and dark Morrison was. The program is full of live performances, music, and behind the scene stuff from the band. Very cool.

I gotta admit... I was impressed with the gal doing to the Berry (or Young) "duck-walk" in 5+ inch heels... Nice to see Meredith Brooks doin her thing too. The tune... well.. it is what it is and they looked like they were having fun.

When I was younger I could only listen to the doors after smoking a joint or two. But to drive in a car or just sit in my room and listen to them, not high, I didn't like them.

Not a big Doors fan. I usually like about any band. For some reason I just couldn't get into these guys. Part of it was Morrison's narcissim. Great band though.
