Location: Northwest Arkansas | I bought a CC 057 off eBay for $120.00 two weeks ago, because it had one of the OP-20 preamps that you can take out easily. It was broken and had to be taped in. I knew something was wrong when she took over a week to ship it after I paid for it. I got it and there were 3 huge cracks in the finish, a chunk missing out of the headstock above the nut, the nut wasn't glued on anymore and the frets are badly in need of a dressing.(not a word about it on the guitar description). Thank God the cracks weren't in the wood. I could send it back, but I've already cleaned it up and put a new set of strings on it. Nevertheless I put an OP-Pro preamp in it. I would recommend that to anyone who has one. It made a huge difference. I have a GC 057 with the OP4BT and the CC sounded a lot fuller with the Pro preamp. After a lot of cleaning the guitar looks great(because you can't see the cracks). They don't effect the sound quality anyway. There was a chunk out of the soundboard also, so I bought a John Pearse armrest for it. It'll fit over the bad spot and make the guitar sustain a little better. The cool thing about the armrest was you don't sweat on the soundboard anymore. I had an armrest on an EA20B Washburn. I had forgotten about them until I saw the bad place in the binding. The another nice thing is now they're made out of rosewood, boxwood or ebony. The bridge and fretboard on my guitar is ebony, so I bought a jumbo rosewood. Like I said, I remember really liking the one I had, and it was made of plastic. I wonder if anyone else has used a John Pearse Armrest? The main thing is the guitar has a few problems. But they can all be fixed. The rest of them just add character.

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I am glad that you are viewing this as a repair project, But...
You know that if someone sells you a piece of crap on eBay you can file a SNAD (Significantly Not As Described) claim and get a refund, Right?
And if the item states "No Returns Accepted" you will still get a refund and maybe get to keep the item?
Or eBay will send you a Shipping Label for the return trip.
I don't know if you have significantly modified the guitar since you got it.
I don't think that Cleaning it is really modifying it.
I only say this because I once bought a Celebrity that was broken at the neck pocket.
I was not informed of this.
Back then, I just kept it because I had bought it and I figured that it was my bad luck.
I eventually sold it as a project for almost the same price, (but I listed it as a Project for parts).
But now I know better, you do have Rights.
I just wanted to be sure that you know that.
[As to the Original Question, I have never used an armrest but I might look into it]

Location: Northwest Arkansas | Thanks OMA. I think I'll just keep it. I can leave it at church. The Pastor likes it. He said he can use it for choir practice. He has 2 really nice Elites, also. As the old adage goes, "You reap what you sow." These people I bought the guitar from are nuts anyway. Those armrests are pretty cool. If you sweat like I do, they sure can make your guitar look better while you're playing. They do help sustain and tone a little. I want to put one on my deep bowl. That'll sound great! I bought one of those Celebrity contour bowls New Years Eve. It sounds better every time I play it. That Custom Legend AX won't be in till Friday. I'll tell how how it goes with that too. I appreciate you OMA!!! |

Location: Northwest Arkansas | I changed my mind. There are too many problems with that particular guitar to keep it. It needs fretwork and after looking at it, the bridge is coming off. Caveat emptor. I'll ask a lot more questions next time. Still a newbie to eBay. Thanks for the help Arthur. You're a stand-up guy.
