Location: Fort Worth, TX | I waited thru the whole show to see Glen Campbell pick up his Ovation and show "em how it's done. You lucky people who have seen him recently in concert, is his Alzheimers to the point where he doesn't play guitar anymore? I read a story on Fox news about Alzheimers patients who are musicians. Strangely enough, the musical ability is one of the last things they lose - long after they've begun to forget who family members are. I hoped this would be the case for Glen... a musician who has influenced me almost as much as Paul mCCartney has. When I was a kid, I had a GC album called The 12 String Guitar of Glen Campbell. It was all instrumental and was brilliant. I'm going to try and find that again. I remember his renditions of Walk Don't Run, Greenback Dollar and Cottonfields Back Home. I sure hope I can track it down - it would be nearly 40 years old now. |

I believe it was time constraints since they had to add the Whitney segment.
Glen can still pick better than most of them out there. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm bracing myself for the time when my mother forgets who I am. My sister-in-law's father had Alzheimer's at a young age and she was crushed when he didn't recognize his own daughter. Memory loss is also especially frustrating to people with the disease and they often reflect that with anger. Glen seems to be taking it with a good deal of humor, but I'm sure there are plenty of moments we don't see where it has to be tough for him. I expect he will remember songs, but won't remember his own family. That's one of the incredibly sad things about the disease. |

You're right - I obviously didn't state what I meant very well. IF it was inevitable that Glen is already forgetting family, I hoped he could still pick and would have done so on the show. We had a couple who were close friends. We watched the wife lose her memory entirely... of her children and husband of over 40 years. It's a disastrous, devastating disease. Of course I agree with your final statement - who wouldn't? |

Maybe not the case here, but sometimes better to leave the old memories intact rather than leave a final lasting impression that's usually a shell of the real thing. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Brett Farve come to mind. |

Not surprised about the liver. My brother and I sat in a hotel bar from ten in the morning til about 9 at night when he had to leave for his venue. He put away one tequila sunrise after another the whole time - never stopping to eat, and seemed sober the whole time. He was in the bathroom quite awhile and I went to check on him. I surprised him when I walked in. He had a line of crank layed out across the whole front of the sink he snorted. He stood up and leaned on me saying "wow man" about a dozen times. I instantly feared I'd be one of those people associated with a star overdosing. Funny thing is, the newspaper review of the concert said it was good to see a sober Greg Allman performing. He invited us on the bus to the next show. My brother and I closed our sign shop for two days of partying with him that left me devastated but Greg never seemed affected by it at all! |

Zing me with that all you want - I can take it (and probably have it coming). Actually, I was kind of afraid to even sit on the mattresses in the bus. As I saw when he was here, Greg actually has a thing for plump, unattractive skank types. He took off on a drug run with one in her ratty old Camaro and sat out in the parking lot making out with her. Yuck. |

Maybe not the case here, but sometimes better to leave the old memories intact rather than leave a final lasting impression that's usually a shell of the real thing. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Brett Farve come to mind.
SWMBO is a bit concerned about the quality of his performance at the concert in Phoenix, but I'm not. I've never seen him live, never had an album of his until this last one and the fact that it will be the only opportunity to see him is significant to me. I don't want to see him screw up or forget his songs, but I like the fact that he's dealing with the disease in a positive way and saying goodbye and thank you to his fans. I can't think of a better way to do it than with a round the world tour with his family. His memory may be short, but he should have some good ones. |

I do not believe it is the case here, and it is imo that the reason is the problem. Glen's concerts are pretty much just like you saw at the Grammys. He is upbeat, having a good time on stage, having a good time with the audience, occasionally ripping on the guitar and providing everyone with a wonderful evening. His vocal range is still exceptional considering he is 76.
But, I believe the reason this tour is different than other "Farewell Tours" is that Glen probably isn't aware of the previous nights...weeks...months concert. When the song pops up on the teleprompter, he often says..."oh, I like this one" and I honestly think that is the case, because it is very new to him. It is apparent that he is having a good time and is offering a night that you will walk away from feeling a little sad, but wishing it would have lasted another 2 hours. For his sake...I hope the tour never ends.

Was I the only one who noticed what a stone fox Glen's daughter was? A gorgeous, leggy blonde flawlessly picking a banjo sets a standard that all other mere females should worship at the altar of. I hope I can catch a concert on this farewell tour just to get a live look at her! |

Greg talked me out of a denim coat I was wearing that had a colorful embroidered guitar strap sewn onto it as a waistband. Glen's daughter could talk me out of my clothes completely. No comparison. |
