Location: south east Michigan | I'm really trying to give NPR a chance. Have been for the last 10 months or so.
Brian tells me about the good stuff on the Acoustic Cafe program. Unusual acoustic covers, interviews, and new music. Brian has said a number of times.. "Oh.. you should have heard so & so do an acoustic cover of this and that". These things must stop right when tune in and start when I tune out.
.
I did hear this tho.
A pained female voice with an acoustic.
The lyrics went...
And I walk by my self loathing
Like animals in a zoo
Trying not to see them
In a prison they didn't choose
Not quite all sunshine and lollipops.
I did find this tho... Saturday morning ..7am.. while I drive to work I enjoy "On The Media". Well balanced, topical, and interesting.

I can no longer watch TV
Cause that sh*t really melts my brain
I think I’m what they call sensitive
And easily thrown off my game
All that bloodshed and pettiness
Just makes the world seem so insane
And I just feel drained
When I go to do my food shopping
And all I can see is the packaging
One big mountain of garbage
About to be happening
And I walk past my own self-loathing
Like I walk past animals in the zoo
Trying not to really see them
And the prison they didn’t choose
If I should ever quit your spotlight
I hope you won’t think me wrong
Says the poet to the moonlight
Says the singer to the song
It’s enough just to stay upright
Upright in every single way
Pour your love into your children
Until there’s nothing left to say
Pour your love into your children
Until there’s nothing left to say
Or DarkBar's lament works too... |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | I listen to NPR all the time. "World Cafe" is a good show. They started playing world music, but now it's just good music of any type, mostly American. Our South Dakota station has a show called "On Record" that plays acoustic music, much of it local and regional. We have a program called "Big Band Spotlight" that I love. And then there is "Piano Jazz", "From the Top", "Thistle and Shamrock", "No Cover, No Minimum", "Blues and Beyond", and they are going to start rebroadcasting "American Routes", which is FANTASTIC.
Oh yeah, my favorite parts are "Morning Classics" and "Jazz Nightly". What really surprised me was how much more music we get on our South Dakota NPR station than we got in Connecticut. |
