If it says Celebrity or Applause, it is Asian.
If the name or model number is followed by the letters -AX or -TX, they are from Asia.
-LX instruments are from the USA.
Older Legends, Elites, and Balladeers are from the USA.
Of course, if you spot something and want to be sure, just post here and ask. |

Still, my Balladeer (1989) was a very nice guitar. I had bought it for my wife but when she got the Celeb 'palm tree' parlor and uke, traded it with another guitar for a 1537. |

| Is a Korean made Ovation so much different than a USA made one ?
On the official website there's the standard Elite 2778ax-fkoa, is this in any way to compare with a 2078LX Custom Elite or a Custom Elite C2078AX ?
Ax is Korean made and the Lx US made.
Is there a different top or neck used ? |

An LX neck has carbon-graphite supports near the body-joint.
The LX neck connects to the bowl/body differently.
It is bolted-on, whereas the AX is glued-on.
Also top is different... The LX has "LX Bracing"...
That is a kind of scalloped bracing, but I think that it is different from the Korean "Scalloped-X bracing".
I cannot comment on the quality of wood because I have never handled an AX.
All that said... The LX is different.
That doesn't mean that the AX isn't good.
LX is just better. (costs more too, and it is getting scarce) |
