Location: Winston-Salem, NC | Does anyone here use a magnetic soundhole pickup in addition to, or instead of, the pickup/preamp in their Ovation?
If you do, which one do you use and why? What do you run it through before it gets amplified, and how does it sound? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I bought a Bill Lawrence sound hole pickup a couple years ago for my Matrix, which doesn't have a preamp. It worked fine, except that it totally failed it's primary function of keeping me from buying other guitars. I just quit using it or the Matrix much and I don't use an amplifier much.
I liked how it worked and the ease of attaching it to the soundhole, except it didn't quite fit well with the Ovation rosette. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Those old Bill Lawrence p/u's were very good. I had one years ago and the only issue is that because it is magnetic, the B string is a lot louder than the G string. I used to keep a small pice of electrical tape on the areas of the B string which balanced it a bit, but not perfect. I saw Leo Kottke back in the 70's and he used the deluxe model in the soundhole and also mic'd the guitar. The combination had a really full sound. |

Contact Kim or John at Ovation. A thinline undersaddle pickup is under $50. Would be a better choice. The saddle slot on my Folklore wasn't long enough for one of those. |

On the Tak TNV460SC, yes, the tri-axe pickup that is compatable with the cool tube. Using it tonight in fact, topic is "Looking back and/or last year" |

Location: Winston-Salem, NC | Actually, I like the Ovation pickup in my '05 Collector. I was just thinking about adding a soundhole pickup for some different possible sounds.
Plus...I'm hoping I could use it to get some pseudo-electric tones out of it. I'd put some DR Zebras on it, and maybe I could get some sounds similar to a solidbody or semi-hollow electric. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | I have an old Dimarzio soundhole pickup I play around with, straight into my little Rogue acoustic amp (remember, I'm the Zeitgeist of BFLG).
I'm with Mark- the little slots on the pickup body & the spring clip are too narrow for the standard Ovation rosette. Functions fine, though.
And, about keeping my back to the audience- moot point; I don't ever have one- for a multitude of reasons, actually. |
