GC SHINY BOWL
Did I lend it to someone here?
Did I sell it to someone here?
I honestly don't know where the heck it is. I went through all my cases and it does not seem to be anywhere.
I sold an old shiny bowl orange lined case to someone not long ago. I forget who. Was there a guitar in the case when you got it?
I normally keep everything pretty well organized but this one seems to have totally disappeared. I sure hope it's not gone because it would be damn near impossible to replace.
Do I need a P.I. ???

Obviously a symptom of having WAY too many guitars. You sold it a couple years back...I'm thinking to MusicMishka but I don't see it in his guitar list.
Of course, the fact that I'm remembering what YOU did with YOUR guitars is probably even a worse symptom on my part... |

I used to know a P.I., but he's gone missing. I was going to hire him to go locate himself, but I couldn't find him. |

I'm afraid it's gone. Most likely the painters who where in our house last month lifted it. But why THAT one? I'm gonna buy a Taylor and sit it right out in the open so any time somebody wants to steal a guitar they'll take that one instead.

I'm guessing that if on display, they saw the Glen Campbell sig. on the headstock and figured it to be a signed guitar...hope that it can be found...sorry my friend... |

I'll start contacting pawn shops tomorrow myself. Dave |

I'm in the process of contacting local pawn shops (shit, there's about 100 of them in Phoenix alone).
Also making "Wanted" posters to give to all the pawnshops and post in all music shops.
Fortunately with my website I've got a good photo history of it including a good photo of the label. People asked if there was any record of a serial number registration by the manufacturer (there isn't) but I gave them a screen-print of the s/n registration page from the website. Who ever thought that I would be the first to really NEED it.
Insurance is no help. I've got a $1000. deductable and I have no receipt of the value of the guitar. The only record is that it sold for $449. back in 1968.
PLEASE look over the photos on my site and familiarize yourself with this guitar and if you have any leads please let me know.

I even still have the old emails where I checked with Dave if he had gotten my US Postal Money Orders... he actually posted UP HERE that he was selling it! So if this is the same one... there should be record on these boards still... maybe in the archives... that he had it up for sale back then and I answered him directly to purchase it. Wow! I never knew this went on in May 2008... of course... in Jan 2008 I went into a Diabetic Coma and nearly died... and in May 2008 I was well into another residence for a bit of time and I wasn't even accessing the boards I believe? So.. that would make sense. But YES Dave... you DID sell this guitar... I believe I sent you two postal MO's over a period of time prior to 12/2008 and you sold me this guitar.. in a case... that's that! Let me know if you remember now... thanks everybody for any dectective work or memories of the sale! I don't want my auction to suffer for any sort of reason here.... All the best, God bless!

Location: Phoenix AZ | Ok, ok, the world isn't spinning off it's axis. Mystery solved and good to know the guitar has been in good hands. Dispite major brain fart and severe pre-alzheimers symptoms connect the dots I did infact sell this guitar to MJK.
I honestly had no freaking recollection of it at all. Many guitars were all packed away in cases, house tipped upside down in rennovations, numerous workers in the house and a month later looking for the GC12 and it was gone. But case and hang tags still in my hand. I asked around here and nobody had knowledge of it being borrowed or sold. I didnt; want to believe that a worker had stolen it, but that was the only conclusion I could draw. So filed a police report, but they turned up nothing.
Turns out the whole transaction was well documented in PMs, but those were all in the old Tupperware account that I never accessed anymore. If I had happened to look in there it would have been obvious. As far as the case I think the house was such a mess that I just shipped MJK the guitar in whatever case I had handy, so that's why the one wiht the GC12 label on it is still in my house.
WHY would I sell such a guitar is still a mystery. One of the rarest of them all. About 100 made, and just a subset of those with the small soundhole. What the heck was I thinking. Timewise this is about when I pickup a 9k Collings, so I may have been a little short on guitar funds is all I can think. The other things was that the U681-12 was (and still is) consuming all of my 12-string play time. Three other 12-strings were sold after this GC12 left.
Well anyway, there you have it. The mystery is solved. I guess I better apologize to the police for the filing a false report. I'll also apologize to the contractor company - I know the police grilled them pretty hard, hopefully nobody got deported. Should I bid on the ebay auction? Wow, I'm really tempted. But at the same time I've sorta made peace with not having the GC12 around. I feel like Chuck Noland returning to his "home".

I actually wrote Dave a couple weeks ago as well saying to Dave that I was preparing to sell this and my Adamas Steve Lukather... now gone... asking if he could remind me of the facts of the GC and he asked me to remind him which GC it was that he had sold me!!!! hahahahaha! Well I guess I, in a rounabout way, DEFINITELY reminded Dave which one it was now! hahahahaha! Maybe we should make arrangements to get the paperwork and case though? I put the picture up of the case I did get with this guitar though.. and it has that sticker on it... GC12? But what paperwork is missing then, that maybe I should have for the next owner? Hmmmmmm.... Let me know your thoughts!
Awesome that minds are at rest though.. that's always good news no matter what.

Does that mean you can also forget you weren't supposed to buy any more, too? ;)
Now I won't feel so bad when I buy a book I have already read or a CD that I already own…
Not too long ago, I bought a book and discovered it was already on the shelf at home, when I realized it, I offered it to a friend. He gave me an odd look and said "you're kidding, right?" Turns out that last year, I had done the same thing and already given him the second copy back then, and this was now the THIRD time I bought the same book, and the second time I offered a duplicate to the same friend…
(I've probably posted that story before, if so, please forgive me, I don't remember…) ;)
…senior moments are pretty awful, but we might as well laugh about them, not much else we can do…
Glad you solved the mystery of the missing GC… |

I bought this book and read it - the whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking it sounded so familiar and I had read it before. It went through all of the books in the house to make sure and no luck.
I finally realized that I had listened to the book as an audiobook a couple of years before that.

Do you remember what you had done to the GC12 to restore it? I know you had sent it back to mother for a spa treatment of some sort.
I can see the bridge has been changed and it looks there might be a sealed crack below the bridge. |

I can see the bridge has been changed and it looks there might be a sealed crack below the bridge. If memory serves, the rosette is actually an overlaid rosette that was sanded down a bit from the back and slightly inlaid into the top of the guitar where the original inlaid rosette used to be. I think you can feel that it's slightly raised from the top..... |

This was only about a year before I sold it to Michael. It was not cheap to do, but it's a great guitar. Would not surprise me at all to see it go around 1500. or so.
I thought about taking a bid at it but I've sorta moved on to other things. |

Mine is not in as good shape as either of yours but it has definate soul, mojo, and sounds fantastic...the stories it could tell...it was unplayable when I won it on eBay two years ago for way south of $300...it will not sell that cheaply again....

And yes, there is no really good store in munich.
We have one fascinating store where I buy online (well, not the best way to buy guitars, but.. it works) in Franfurt. Karl started a thread once about it.
They have the most amazing guitars on stock I have ever seen. In quality and quantity.
