Great! Put me down for a piece of floor for sleeping. Not that I don't love all you guys, but the thought of Mama G8r's vittles is really getting me excited.

If she's not planning to cook, I'll get by.

Hey, let's give the poor snowbirds a little break, can we? Sure, skiing's great but it's only the thought of a round of golf, a bbq and some swimming that keeps me alive in February.

No skiing here yet. It might be a dry year. That makes the cabin fever worse.

Mrs. G8r's famous Charleston grits (she was raised in South Carolina) - cooked in cream and topped with shrimp, sausage & onion sauteed in butter with a little Old Bay. Mmmmm, good (no damn wonder I can't lose weight).

I have a distinct memory of someone's head nearly falling into their grits several times, but you probably don't remember that.

FYI, so nobody duplicates (unless they want to) - Guitars in-house:
1619 Custom Legend (should be freshly back from the spa)
1537 Elite
1615 Pacemaker
1987 Collector's
Adamas 2008 Collector's
Adamas 1687 30th Anniversary Reissue
Takamine TNV360
Larrivee LV-09
Larrivee P-09

My requests: 47RI, iffy's 1680, UTE, (no clue what TJ has/will have by then), hell just about anything, they're all good!

Other gear:
Genz-Benz Shen 100
Crate 15W
Digitech Vocalist Live 4
Boss RC-20XL Looper
Zoom MRS-4 Digital Recorder (we really should try to record)
Behringer mixer
3 mic's
Mic preamp

Please bring a music stand if you have one. I have 3 extra guitar stands.

Can't wait! Lady g8r's getting excited about feeding everyone. She lives for that.

I don't know. I don't really have anything I want to bring. Except I think Beal wanted to try out the cowboy Gretsch.

Maybe we need a Carolina/Georgia drive-down role call. Is Otto planning to attend?

I talked to TRboy today, he is his usual "call me the day before we leave" self.

Also, left a message for Keith. Have not heard back from him yet.

Figured we get all the commits then figure out the arrangements.

BTW, I will bring a UTE and a 1681, a stand or three and uhhh...TRboy!

Present and planning, Cap'n!
May have 1 or 2 civilians with me but could certainly make room in the Astro for 1 or 2 others depending on accompanying gear volume. Anyone passing close by Marion would be welcome to drop their car at my place and ride with us the rest of the way. This flight would be non smoking but the pilot can be bribed to pull over occasionally. :)

G8R, give Mike a shout on the email, maybe that would twist his arm. I was thinking to see if Robert Sanders would come as well. Maybe Willie too.

After considering the drive time (as I'm on the road now coming back from Tampa) I will try to beg a little floor space at the G8r casa for Sat night. Got room Serge?

Absolutely, TJ. Safe travels.

We'll be in airports most of the day tomorrow on our way to spend the next 10 days with the outlaws. From shorts and t-shirts to forecast of snow & a high of 22 in the space of a few hours.

TWO WEEK BUMP!

Would be nice to get a head count so we can get the appropriate amount of food and beverage - also, any special requests/allergies/etc. if you haven't already told me about them.

Directions from I-75 Exit 389 (SR 222/NW 39th Ave) are here.

Directions from I-75 Exit 387 (SR 26/Newberry Road) are here.

Google makes one mistake with the latter 2 directions - where it says 31st Blvd, it's actually street-signed as 37th Ave (a traffic light).

Directions from I-75 Exit 384 (SR 24/Archer Road) are here.

Coming from any other direction (Beal, I'm talkin' to you) and don't know/don't remember how to get here, email or PM me.

Gonna be fun!

Patty and I plan to attend from noonish Friday to noonish Sunday. We have local lodging reserved.

I have a feeling that I'll be able to establish a new baseline (not bass) by which all others can be 'evaluated'. If that occurs, then TJ et al will certainly rate high.

Actually I'm thinking about bringing Depends and Kleenex for my audience as a humanitarian public service...

I'll be in Daytona Beach the 10th through the 14th, but have to head back to the left coast before the festivities begin. I'll miss dropping in. Make sure all y'all have fun without me.

BUT ... I will be back in California in time to hook up with the usual suspects and NAMM contingent in Moodyville ... and strut around in my Mr. Big shirt at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Man, you guys are killing me. Here I am in Daytona Beach, 98% of the way from CasaBobbo, and I gotta go back Wednesday. I tried to find a way to miss my flight, but I have a long standing commitment to be in Moodyville on Thursday and Friday ... and the real Disneyland with my sweetheart and my youngest on Saturday and Sunday. But March ain't that far out anymore!

Have a great time. We expect lots of pictures, and no broken bones.

I imagine TJ & iffy will roll in no later than 9 or 10, DesignZilla around the same time.
In case there was any confusion, the time for these guys arriving is Saturday morning.

probably none... unless she's not out of CICU yet..

I still have to go to the city manager's office tomorrow, after my meeting today with the councilman and the fire marshall.. and still to the courthouse to file against them for their recent actions and illegal service and full violation of about every FL landlord/tenant statute on the books...

I may also be filing harassment charges with the Sheriff in Bonner County, or at least have them do a code and safety inspection on the homestead... which is just slightly illegal as they are homesteaded here as well...oops.. and not maintaining minimum tenancy here or even close... among many other nasties they have been pulling, which may get him more than a little "time away" but they are pretty close to the Canadian border, He and the wife may just head north real quick. he owns about 2 mil worth of properties... most rentals... and doesn't get it when it comes to following the laws and requirements and a landlord. and has been just thumbing his nose for a looooooong time.

thanks for the welcome.... back... loading the car tomorrow, then up to Gainesville on Tues.
Char's surgery is first scheduled Wednesday morning.

Well I'll be darned! I had no way of knowing it was you.

But I did know that anyone that has a 'blues' name in the sig line in their first post either had done a LOT of reading here prior to joining or had signed up again.

As I said before, Char and you are still in my prayers. Best of luck to both of ya'll this week!

Thanx Steve (ozwatto)! The 'O' book arrived today from down under. Love the post cards also.

Now have I something worthwhile for 'show and tell' at the G8r Bowl, not counting the 1680 and the scar. :D

Thanks Bob, wish you could make it too.
Now, on another note, what's everybody bringing? I know Johnny is bringing the 1680 and whatever else, I'm bringing the Josh or the Balladeer RI, and Beal's bringing his guitar of the day + the Baritone 2080. I'm sure Jas is bringing his new Adamas, any more?

I'll bring the 47 RI and the 2007 collector's. Everything else is probably covered by g8r's herd or by what someone else is bringing.

If somebody wants to check out something in my sig line, let me know and I'll bring it.

It'll be mostly unplugged (no PA), but I can phantom power up to 4 mics (I have 3, but only 2 stands), run them thru my mixer and then into the Shen 100.

Everybody please bring one guitar stand for each guitar you bring. If you have a music stand that would help, too.

Gettin' excited!

That's right. The southern boys usually plug in at the Jamboree, and unplug at the rest. G8r and I tried playing plugged in on the porch at Smokies, but it was too darned cold.

Beal - should take 1-3/4 to 2 hr from FB. Starting from your place it might be easiest to just head south & take Heckscher to 9A north then 295 & you know the rest. Probably 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. 10-4 on those speed traps!

DING...!!!

Plan on taking off sometime Friday afternoon. Still working out some logistics as Kathy will be coming with me and I won't leave Chase with just anybody. :)
Plan to be there sometime Friday evening anyway. Gits are undecided yet. Maybe the 1687s, (the -9 is just back from Mom's), probably the 1885, and definitely an ugly duckling that just arrived this afternoon and which I have been working on tonight.

Yes! Even unplugged, when a whole room full of O's and A's gets jamming it gets kinda tough to sing above 'em without some kind of reinforcement.
I've got extra stands G8r and I'll throw the Peavey Escort in the truck for back-up, too.

Can't wait to see everyone!

I hate it when I say something that I didn't mean. I meant I wanted a picture of the butterflies. I've seen enough of Dave.

Back to who's bringing what:

Anybody who has an SSB Elite they'd like to unload in the $400-$500 range, email me.

Anybody who might like to look at the Deacon, let me know.

Otherwise I'll just bring the 1581.

Jas - Malabar Glenn left a few guitars with me that he's trying to sell - one of them is the SSB 85C 12-string. It's in mint condition. I think he's wanting a little more than the range you state, but if you're interested let me know & I'll put you in touch with him.

for the record, two of the guitars presented to G8r were requested to be there for evaluation, examination, and possible sale.

the 2771-lx-4 belongs to AJ, and Beal has agreed to take it back down to Amelia along with the Book(That I am hoping that you will all sign for him) and will give him the guitar, book, and Posters for him, which are a vintage Ovation solid body poster, and a Mattingly pen and ink which show a dragon playing a Hagstrom, puffing on a roll your own, and having a grand time at it.

I gave Serge about 20 or so OFC Blue/thick picks, and about 12 Adamas graphite picks, and one Gator graphite pick for Serge. If anyone in attendance wants one...please feel free to take one.

I also gave him an old Fostex mutitrack recording unit(cassette) in working condition,
and if anyone in attendance at G8rBowlII, would like to have it, you may have it free of charge as it was donated to help with my wife's medical expenses by another OFC member here in FL, but no-one was interested in it.

The vipertron was sent over by Slydog, and is an example of what can be done with NOS parts from Miles, some nitrocellulose lacquer as a finish, and a little help from Howie and his guitar techs/luthiers....and is available for sale as well..Al's about to lose his home... and could use some extra cash right now....if he loses his home, he will be moving in with me and Charlotte.

all other items listed as in my trunk are still there, and if anyone in attendance is interested in any of that gear...please feel free to contact me... 321-506-2280 and I will be more than happy to bring them over to Casa G8r for your testing, inspection, and evaluation...
if I am upstairs with Char, on telemetry floors my phone will not receive, so please leave a message.

Best Regards, and have fun all!
and again, Thank You ALL!! for the prayers and good thoughts for my wife!

just got back from G8rs, Bill was just leaving and they had just put all of the cheap woodboxes away.. ;) , just kidding...

it was nice to finally put some faces, and shake some hands of the people and friends that I've met here.

I promised Char that I would be back by midnight, and I made it and was a good boy and stayed away from the evil spirits... I took some cell phone pictures... we sang Blue Bayou, Boy Named Sue, aint no sunshine, and a few others..

Thanks very much to Sergio, and his lovely wife and children for hosting this gathering, and to all there for welcoming me, and making me feel at ease. your concern and care for my wife's condition and prayers and good thoughts for her speedy recovery were and are very much appreciated.

Thank you all, it was a nice break from the Hospital.

Please ignore the "mumbo-jumbo" portion of my last post. That was thoughtless and insensitive, but purely unintentional. I'm sorry nonetheless. I truly wish your wife a speedy recovery as well.

(But I still want to know how the grits turned out.)

So you left already? What....did have a tee time you couldn't miss? You barely had time to unload your armored car full of priceless guitars before you had to pack em all back up. Unlike me, you know how NOT to wear out a welcome.

New thread started in the Fan Gatherings section, with a couple of pictures. Many more pics to follow from the attendees when they get home.

A huge thank you to everyone who came. We had BIG fun! Now for some sleep, since we were up playing from Friday evening until Saturday morning around 4:30, up again around nine, then nearly nonstop playing (except for food breaks) until 2:30 this morning.

A very special thank you to lady G8r, the love of my life, for all she did to keep everyone well fed, well watered, and happy.

YSBT!

A huge thanks to Serge, Jhimli and Rohan, for all the hospitality. The food was wonderful, as usual. Thanks for puttin' us up and puttin' up with us!

I had a great time. Played a whole bunch of great guitars and got to jam with a bunch of talented (and modest) people.

It was great to see a bunch of old OFC buddies again and meet a bunch more. Thanks to everybody who came, it was great jammin with ya!

Just rolled in the door, and here's the good news: Iffy and I are in the same medical condition as when we left!! A great big thanks to the G8r's for a great time and hospitality, not to mention Jhimli's cooking! Serge, how do you stay so slim?? Thanks to Beal for all the stories and those weird chords he seems to always come up with, to Steve De banjo for the great lessons and show he put on, (ever hear lead played on a banjo?) and to all the rest for just being there for the great time we all had. If anyone ever gets a remote chance to attend a get together from the OFC, don't hesitate a bit. You will be sorry if you don't make it.

Serge,

Just a quick note to thank you, Jhimli and Rohan for the absolutely wonderful time, efforts and FOOD!

The grits/shrimp/sausage was awesome! I even had some for dessert...

BTW, TJ lived up to his name on the way back home! :D More later...

A great time. Here's what I can remember of it:

Friday:
Tangy Chicken Curry, guitars 'til 4am

Saturday:
Shrimp and grits, sausage and pasta, guitars 'til 2am

Sunday:
French toast and pork BBQ

The shrimp & grits stands out as possibly my favorite thing ever. Thanks to the g8rs. And it was a pleasure to meet DeBanjo and our new friend Cathy.

Heading home, as I'm cruising down I75, TJ, my co-pilot, gets a call on his cell phone. The next thing I know I'm listening to 60 miles worth of his 'wheeler dealer trader' spiel. First for one guitar, then TWO! I was LMAO and he got that SE grin of his.

I think he had been a bit depressed that the jam was over. But that call really lifted his spirits. You want to talk about a sick puppy, I meant SICK!!!

Just got in about an hour and half ago. Got the gear hauled in, got the young 'un to bed and figured we better check in.

Had us a LARGE TIME at GatorBowl 2. Hospitality at the g8r household is unmatched anywhere and the eats were fantastic! Hats off to Lady g8r for some incredible cuisine.

Jamming was the best ever and went into ridiculous hours both nights. :D
Man it’s hard to quit when you're having that much fun!

Thanks g8r for a perfect weekend and thanks to all of my OFC buddies for again reinforcing what I already know to be true. The fact that I am incredibly blessed with some amazing friends.

Hoping everyone else is home safe and sound or close to it by now.

Otto

Sorry to all. I sent a reply on the Fan Gathering page before reading the rules that you are NOT supposed to do that. Posts are for pictures only. I won't do THAT again. I'm still learning my way around this forum thing, and I'm slower than most.

The paradox of the OFC - most of us here are slower than most.

Glad to see you guys stopped at a decent hour, 2 Am. We got back to the Island at midnight so we went to see Pam and Davis and sat it with them for a tune each. We got back to the house at @ also.
To Serge and Jhimli, the best, we love you guys!
To all the other attendees, the same. See you next time.

I had a FOOT STOMPIN' good time!! :D (more on that later....)

A great BIG THANK YOU to Serge and Jhimli for hosting this event and putting up with all of us!
Your hospitality is endless.

Jhimli's meals were superb!

Great to meet Steve (debanjo) he's a SUPER picker and a great storyteller, and Cathy (Otto's LOHL) a lovely lady and a real trooper....she hung in there till the wee hours each night with all us wild-eyed guitar nuts....... ;) I hope they both had a good time and become regular attendees.

THANKS to Keith (WarEagle) for his wonderful original songs and for doin' the drivin' for us SC boyz!

Great to see everyone else too!....I'm proud to call y'all friend!

Lastly........Thanks to everyone for enduring my ear shatterin', eyes bleedin', (stomach turning? ) attempts at singin'.....hope y'all have a quick recovery!

Sounds like a great time!

I got 2 questions. First, who brought the Guild? Beautiful guitar. Second, what did everybody think of the K1111 reissue? I think those are absolutely killer guitars!

That Guild is the first one to escape the factory. How 'bout that! Beal brought it, and said it's $3200 list price.

I thought the Guild looked, sounded and played very nice. Way overpriced, but there seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

The action was a little high on Keith's Charis (not unplayable) but it was great for Bluegrass and FingerStyle pickin' in the hands of DeBanjo and Beal.......Sounded Saw-weeeet!
