Location: Vernon CT | With all that I'm going through emotionally with my Dad, I have to play tonight at a New Years Eve celebration (have the blessings understanding and support of my family). I have a 20 mile drive in a snow storm, frigid temps and 30-40 mile an hour winds to deal with!
Anyone else gigging tonight?
Thank-you all again for you kind words and support. |

My gigging will consist of sitting in front of the fire with the wife sipping a mixture of good Champagne and Grand Mariner. |

I have the keys to the Seiner that used to be on our five dollar bill, for rent by the minute. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Can't play tonight 'cause Frankenstein will be there. My neighbor across the street is having a party, and a friend of hers will be there. She positively BEATS on guitars. The one and only time I played with her, she borrowed a friends resonator guitar. I had my Morgan Monroe which is LOUD. Gail had her very loud Martin, and another guy was playing a loud Yamaha. None of us could even hear each other or ourselves. Someone would start a song, and even if Frankenstein didn't know it, she would start playing along, different chords, different words (caterwalling would be a good description) and finally we'd give up. By halfway through the night the screws had come loose from the cone on the resonator, thats how hard she was playing. She said "This thing sounds like shite, let me try your guitar." I jumped up, put my guitar in the case, and said "I was just leaving." There will be five musicians going to the party tonight, and we have all agreed we're not bringing our instruments. Frankenstein can play alone tonight! |

I recall a instance at Amelia last year when Matt, emphatically but politely told someone (not one of our group)... "If ya can't hang.... don't play"
I have a great duo partner but I wish some of my other friends played an instrument. |

| Doing a private party. BTW, that club that wanted to set us up in front of a fire exit is not having entertainment tonight. |

Location: New South Wales, Australia | It's well and truly over down here and I've just got home after spending the night at my brother in law's place. I was told I had to take a guitar but I wouldn't call it a gig.
Spent a lot of time in the pool, eating, drinking, and playing guitar, and finally helping the aforementioned brother in law with some pyrotechnic misadventures which resulted in him receiving burns to his back and having to jump into the pool to put the flames out.
I wonder when I'll be too old for that sort of stuff.
Happy New Year to you all!! :) |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Well, Frankenstein never showed up. Seems she had some kind of falling out with the hostess the day before. Only one guy brought a guitar (a nice old Guild from 1980, maple back and sides.) We passed it back and forth a little bit, but that was about it. Ate some good food, visited with some friends, and wound up leaving at ten. I hadn't slept but a couple of hours the night before (raging insomnia) so I slept through the turning of the new year. Now I'm down here at the shop to do inventory and waiting for a phone call from my friends back east.
Happy new year to everyone. |
