Location: Sugar Land, TX | Some of you know I got a CC48 for Christmas. After taking it out of the factory box to give it the once over, I noticed it has a defect on the top below the neck that runs under the strings. It looks like a crack but it is smooth so if it's a crack it is underneath the finish. It may only be cosmetic.
Now I know this isn't an Adamas and I wasn't expecting perfection. Actually, I was just going to keep it, but every time I open the case, my eyes go to that spot. So, I'm sending it back. It was purchased from an authorized Ovation online retailer.
Some of you also know, I haven't played in a while and I have had a blast with this thing over the last week. My wife and daughter have been giving a me a hard time about playing for 4-5 hours at a time. As far as the CC48, other than the defect, I think it looks, plays and sounds great but I hadn't had it 24 hours and I was already thinking about upgrading. (Been here only a few weeks and you guys gave me GAS already!)
To make a long story short, I need some suggestions on what to get. The retailer I purchased from only carries Celebrities, so I will be getting a refund. So I'm in the market for a new Ovation.
Here is my wish list:
1. Multi Sound Hole (Just like the look)
2. Super Shallow or Mid Bowl
3. New not Used
4. American Made
5. Under $1,000.00
Any suggestions and comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Corey.
You should reconsider this requirement. There are some absolute crazy bargains on high end used O's in this economy. |

If you buy a used Ovation , especially off the "for sale" section here you will get yourself an Instrument aged , openned up and taken very well cared of. Basically everything you are looking for, except New. You may even be able to get 2 for around $1000.00!
Personally, unless I get an Incredible deal I may NEVER buy new again. |

Hi Corey.
You should reconsider this requirement. There are some absolute crazy bargains on high end used O's in this economy. I totally agree. You can find yourself a very nice American made Ovation for a lot less. Then you can use the money you saved to buy a second one or to apply towards an Adamas. |

2. Many, if not most here would pick a mid over an SS. I would.
3. Why? Here I'll pile on with the others, used .
4. All here will agree!
5. Oh soooo many options available...
If ya could narrow the field to some model numbers, I'm sure that someone here has what you're looking fer.
Good luck in your search! |

First off, welcome Corey. Second, RUN don't walk, and get that 1537 from Woody . That is among the BEST wood top Ovation ever made, and you simply cannot beat that price. He has it listed on Ebay now, but contact him (MWoody) directly. Seriously, you can't get a better guitar, and for a steal of a price. |

I have seen 3 2007 BCS collectors go for $600-$800 in the last couple of weeks. I am really impressed with the sound of this guitar. It meets many of your requirements.
God bless,

Any one of the suggestions given will get you there. (especially the "Call Al" one)
For some people it takes years to make that Celebrity to USA Ovation move.
I think that little cosmetic flaw is doing you a big favor. |

Location: Sugar Land, TX | First of all, thanks for all the great advise. I have only been a member here for a few weeks, and have been treated like a member of the family. Old Man Arthur was even up in the we hours Christmas morning helping me out. I'm sure any one of you would have done the same. I have even had a few offers of guitars today and just let me say, I wouldn't hesitate buying one from any of you.
I made a trip to Guitar Center here in Houston today. I went straight to the Ovations. There was a grand total of 5 of them in the store. Three Applause models and 2 Celebrities. Maybe this had to do with lack of post Christmas inventory. I don't know.
My other interest was Taylor. To make a long story short, I bought a new 210E. Now before anyone goes hating on me, I have seen a number of Taylor's listed here in member sigs. Just look at BT717 above. LOL! My initial impression is it sounds incredible. Even my wife who has not a musical bone in her body said, "Either you have improved in the last week, or that guitar sounds much better than the other one." LOL! I'm no expert, but the fit and finish appear to be top notch but I'm comparing that to a defective Celebrity so take that for what its worth. I must say I don't think it's as pretty as an Ovation. Even with all it's flaws, I think that defective Transparent Blue Celebrity is a prettier guitar. But the Taylor also has a certain "no frills" attractiveness to it. It's growing on me.
This brings me back to my first post here when I told about my Model 1111 Balladeer that my parents bought me when I was a teenager and how I thought it was the most beautiful sounding guitar I ever heard. I will always have a spot in my heart for that guitar and Ovations. In other words, I will always be an Ovation Fan. I might even own another one one day. In the meantime, I hope you guys won't mind if I drop in from time to time. This is a great place.

Location: Vernon CT | While I have voiced my "Positive Opinions" about Taylors before at the risk of being chewed up and spit out by some of our more passionate members here, I, in the last year have grown more fond, appreciative and knowlegeable of the American made Ovation. I will NEVER knock anyone for buying an instrument they find pleasing to their eyes, ear and feel, but, Corey, with the abundance of High Quality used Ovations for sale on Ebay and specifically here, I think you could have spent less for more. Enjoy your Taylor, I do, but make sure your next is an "O", you won't regret it. I never have! :) |

| Congratulations on your new Taylor, Corey. I'm generally not a fan of Taylors myself, but everybody's got a favorite flavor of ice cream, too, and it doesn't have to be my favorite flavor.
I actually played the first Taylor that I liked today at Best Buy of all places. It was a $3000 New Yorker body. It sounded similar to my Takamine dread (which was $1800 cheaper).
Keep an eye out for a good used higher-end Ovation, Corey. And enjoy your new guitar! |
