Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Well, maybe it's not really that far off topic considering Fender's role these days...
Anyway, several years ago I picked up a Strat at a guitar show. The truss rod was blown which was fine cause I wanted to play with putting a GS neck on it anyway, and as luck would have it, a friend of mine wanted the neck.
Well, the GS neck was a fun idea, but really didn't work out that well so I thought I would find a nice strat neck and that would be that.
In the process, I decided to try and find out what guitar I had in the first place. The term "goth strat" was knocked about a bit, but in searching the web I come up empty. It had the original plastic protective on the pick guard when I got it, and I believe it was a Made in USA strat too, which was the attraction of why my friend wanted the neck.. but in reality I don't recall. It was an actual Fender guitar, not a clone, is all I'm sure of.
It is flat black, with a gunmetal gray pick guard.
H-S-S pickups. If anyone has any idea what model this guitar was, or know anything about it other than "yep.. that's a strat" I'd be interested. It's not critical thing, just like to know what I have, and it's been a little more intriguing since my searches have turned up nothing.
Thanks in advance.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I was going to be a "Stratovation" or an "Ovationcaster" but the neck is too high, and while I could fix that... it's a bunch easier to just find a neck that fits and bolt it on.
The odd part (to me) is that I can even make up words with the words Fender Strat in it, and I get google hits and photos of guitars that match what words I put in. This... I get nothing really close other than black guitars. The flat black ones so far have either the special edition "chrome" pick guard, or just a white one.
Just one of those curiosities of life. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | There's something about the shape of a Strat that just simply feels right. Can't help you with what you've got for the body. The neck is the tell-tale sign for USA-made. Maybe there are additional codes inside the pup routings. |

Budget line but USA made.
They were(are) available in a range of colours including flat black with rosewood fretboard and vintage style hardware.

Location: Tennessee | I put together my own StratoViper. With a nice maple neck donated by the moody one, and an 80's Celebrity hard body guitar that had a broken pointy headstock, I created a monster.
It actually worked out real well. The intonation is spot on, and it plays like a dream. However, it indeed is no match for Mr. Big's FrankenViper, as you can tell from the look on his face.

When did the Highway 1 series come out? I bought this in 2004 I believe, maybe even 2003. It's been a while.
I had initially wanted to put a Viper neck on it, but as I recall, the scale wasn't close enough. |

Warmoth (in Tacoma) is definately the way to go. |

Highway 1 Strats were introduced in 2003 and are still available.
As PB said they are available in HSS configuration.
I see that Fender are about to introduce a range of Strats, Teles and Basses called "Road Worn".
They are made to look old and well used and at basic prices.
I don't think that will help the value of their "Custom Shop" guitars.
I guess it's just sell sell sell to the masses.

There is a beat-up (looking) Tele on the ad, minus the bridge cover.
First thing I thought was, If I buy a new Telecaster from y'all, I want the Ashtray!
I guess that I ain't the Target Market.
I get Old guitars and try to make them look New...
Not the other-way-around. |
