I got the Billy Gibbons book and Shakey, the biography of Niel Young. Started Shakey last night. The Gibbons was good with nice pictures of the guitars and cars. More of a picture book that reading. |

The Black Strat
A great read and great photo's...well done...I highly recomend it!
And also this:
Martin Guitars
Hardcover and signed By C.F. Martin 1V...
What a book....SWMBO is the greatest!
BTW: the signature inside both of my Adamas I's is way more valuable to me!!!
Side Note: back in 1977, I had a chance to see the collection of the fellow (name escapes me) who owned the Ax In Hand music store...what a collection he had at the time...I don't know what ever happened to him...or the guitars...some beautiful '58 and '59 Les Pauls...
Beal you probably know... |

I'm really liking Logic but my take on switching to a new DAW is the following:
20% is obvious
20% isn't obvious but you can figure out yourself
10% will become obvious if you see it in a book
The remaining 50% you'll never use or need to know. |

The remaining 50% you'll never use or need to know. DAMN STRAIGHT! I keep playing with Samplitude but always go back to Cubase cause I can use 20% of it well. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Got the Complete Clapton. Should keep me busy till next year. Oh, and I'm still struggling with the manuals for the MIDI foot controller. It's bad enough that I don't speak MIDI (What's a "patch"?), but when the ebay ad said "manuals included", he forgot to mention that none of them were in English. |

One of 16 channels in a MIDI device. Many keyboard synthesizers and MIDI sound modules can handle several waveforms per patch, mixing different instruments together to create synthetic sounds. Each waveform counts as a MIDI voice. Some sound cards can support two or more waveforms per patch

OK, I answered my own question: Ax In Hand: Larry Henricksen (now run by his daughter Erin) in DeKalb IL. and they have added another store in Schaumburg, IL... |

clear as mudd... I kind of figured out "patch" and the fact that I need an upgraded EPROM, now you throw waveform and sound modules at me. I just wanted something so I could press a button with my foot and have it change the settings on my amp. |

I think you got the wrong piece of gear for that. |

Me, too. If I could understand the language, I might have been able to figure that out before I put it on the Christmas list. The pictures in the amp manual showed it hooked up to the amp with one cable. That part I could figure out.
Jeff, I always had a thought that people who give those books are hinting that you should go somewhere else and die. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Mark, sounds like you need a programmable modeler. That's precisely how I use the Zoom A2.1u. I have about a dozen cutomized presets in the A bank that I use exclusively for gigging. Selecting the custom preset (which have long been memorized) is just a matter of stomping one of two buttons to move up or down within the bank. Besides numerous factory presets, most modelers give you the option to create your own customized presets. This gives you options for predetermining levels of reverb, chorus, delay, crunch, echo, tone, etc. The Zoom's acoustic factory presets serve as an excellent starting point to design your own by adding or taking away certain elements, or by assigning the effects parameters to the expression pedal, thereby allowing you to change the effect on the fly, altough I typically use the expression pedal for volume only. Learning these devices is half the fun. However, once in rehearsal, it needs to be an effective tool because I don't have the time to experiment with the settings. |

:D Good idea, but I need to find one that know something about music. Haven't found one of those yet, and I have more computer geeks around here than I can stand. The old saying, "When I ask you the time, I don't want to learn how the clock works" comes to mind. |

Jeff, SWMBO just gives me a list every day of 1000 things to do before I go to bed. I'd prefer the book. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | California is a long way from Idaho in many respects. I still have trouble thinking of the Bay area as Northern California. There's a whole lotta land north of there before you get to Oregon. |

Location: Portland, OR | Got a coffee table book called "Guitar a complete guide for the player". Dave Hunter and others. Great for me because I don't know anything in it. Nice pictures, but I get lost in the technical, music stuff.
Tom McCall, a great Oregon governor, espoused notices at the border inviting Californians to visit frequently but refrain from staying. They did not and the southern Oregon coastal properties ballooned to outrageous California prices. Hell, we don't even have a sales tax we can whack them with, unless they stay. Then the income tax will do them dirty, as it does us all. |
