Location: South Windsor Connecticut | What is the general thought on your best bang for your buck when it comes to used 12 strings? I am in the market for a nice Ovation 12 string in the $1000 - $1500+ range.
I don't feel right hanging around while I don't have a nice Ovation to play. Besides the dog house can be warm if you hug the dog.
I know this is a general question so you can throw random thoughts at me if you like. |

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Pacemakers, but a deep bowl textured top is the best 12 made to my ear. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I am trying to sell crappy practice amps that I have lying around, then I saw that.
I'm trying to decide which guitar to sell for March's rent.
That cost less that the Beater that eventually became the 1115-HB,
And it is in much better condition.
If I could afford that, it would be gone by now.
Or you can wait for the next $700 Adamas. |

Location: Texas | I keep seeing such "finish cracks" in older models, especially 12 strings (not surprising), especially Pacemakers. Can they be fixed by an amateur? How bad is beyond value? Do they tend to get worse or multiply? Are there any original Pacemaker 12's around without finish cracks? (not to be confused with Finnish Crackheads, that's something altogether different ;-)
That One looks very nice, but it does have a 12" crack in the finish, doesn't appear to be in the wood… (Don't worry, I'm not bidding on it… )
Just curious, I have played Pacemaker 12s and loved the sound. They seem to pop up pretty often on Ebay and local newspaper for-sale ads etc. One of these days I'm gonna stumble on one that's too good to pass up… and head back to the doghouse ;-) |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Finish cracks are fairly common on the older models, possibly because the urethane finish was so thick. They may have been caused by climate changes, although I have 2 from 1976 that have no cracks. I've seen then on other guitars, too. None of mine have ever spread, but I've never tried to repair them. Apparently very thin superglue can be used, but it is difficult to force it into the crack. |
